Tools and Hardware Reviews of Soleus Air MS-10R Reflective HeaterCustomer Review: Be Sure To Buy Some Sunglasses With It! Summary: 3 Stars
It is everything it says but if you have it oscolating in front of you it is like a spotlight! The Halogen reflects off of the parabolic dome and blinds you everytime it faces you. If you like it dark when you watch TV at night this is a very bright night light. If you're just going to put it in the corner and not have it face you it's a great heater. We returned it in spite of all of its other great features. if you want parablolic try the coil based heaters like Holmes or the Windchaser models. They are not as efficient but they aren't so bright either.
Customer Review: Best "Little bit of Sunshine" that money can buy Summary: 5 Stars
As long as one realizes that an infrared radiant heater is designed to heat people, not rooms, there will be no disappointment with this little gem. If you want a room heater, try something else such as an oil filled or ceramic heater.
I prefer the halogen quartz over the carbon tube product, as they are instant on / instant off, provide the most efficient production of infrared energy, minimize production of waste heat, and do so while consuming half the power.
Compare this product to the well known Holmes or Lakewood vertical carbon tube heaters :
Instant on / off compared to 3-5 minute warm up and shut down times.
800 watts max versus 1500 watts max.
No fan versus a cooling fan needed to draw off excess heat from the carbon tubes / protective cover.
If you absolutely must have a vertical carbon tube heater, pay very close attention to the protective cover design. The Holmes model uses a perforated metal grill, and there is just too much metal between you and the heating elements. As a result, much of that infrared energy goes to heating the grill instead of you. Perhaps another reason a fan is needed to draw off excess heat. On the other hand, the Lakewood model uses a wire grid as a protective cover, similar to what you might see on an electric fan. I believe this design will allow much more of the infrared energy to get to the individual being warmed.
The only negative I can mention is I have been unable to find a source of replacement lamps if and when the original bites the dust. Anyone out there been successful in finding a source for replacement bulbs ?
I am so pleased with my initial Soleus purchase that I am ordering a second.
Customer Review: Best bet for large spaces Summary: 5 Stars
Feels like you are taking a sunbath...even in a 55 deg warehouse. It heats you, not the air. You feel the heat instantly.
Most air portable heaters are 1500 watts and up. The high setting on these is only 800 watts. They save money and feel warmer in open spaces. We set up several to surround workstations otherwise you really notice your warm parts versus your cold ones.
Not the best solution for lounging around the house...it really is bright.
Customer Review: Buying this one. Again. Summary: 3 Stars
I really like this and my cats absolutely love it. I end up with a string of cats littering the floor in the direction that this is pointing. If you're pointing the (very bright) thing at yourself, you get nice and toasty (5 stars for toasty and energy efficiency), however this unit did not do a great job of heating the whole room unless I left it on for a very long time (3 stars for heating a whole room). Last of all, I'm buying a second one because my first one kicked itself off and won't go on again. It's about two years old which isn't so bad but I do like things that last (3 stars for staying power).
Customer Review: Excellent ! Summary: 5 Stars
This beats oil filled heaters, ceramic heaters, and any others.
First because its efficiency. It runs in two modes 400w and 800w.
Which are a lot less than usually 1000w space heaters. at 400w i am
very comfortable.
second, I LOVE THE LIGHT.
there are studies where people get depressed living in dark regions
or seasonal changes. This thing give you kind of sun-like beam
and is very toasty and comfortable enough for me to go day dream.
very relaxing.
People think since it's halogen life span of the heater won't be more very long. However, upon close inspection the coil of the halgen is very
thick. It's not like halogen lamp that you use for lighting purposes.
It will last minimum 3 to 5 years if you are careful with it and don't shake it or move it around.
