Tools and Hardware Reviews of Starrett 505A-12 ProSite 12-Inch Dial ProtractorCustomer Review: Good Tool Summary: 5 Stars
Good quality. Handles and works good. The usual high grade Starrett stuff. I recommend this!
Customer Review: Good Tool - Wish They'd Had The Smaller One When I Bought This One Summary: 4 Stars
Overall, I like this tool a lot. It's solid, easy to use, and my label seems to be on straight because this tool is accurate. My only problem is that there are so many places I can't use it because of it's length. I bought mine in 2004, before they came out with a shorter version. If you know you'll be OK with the size, I think this is a good tool for the price.
Customer Review: Good and Accurate Summary: 5 Stars
Mine is calibrated correctly, just enough pivot tension. Yeah, it's big and long, but to get a more accurate angle, 12 inches is appropriate and the heavy construction means damage is minimal, unless used as a pry bar. Don't let the previous whiners and prima donna psuedo craftsmen spoil this tool. On a large baseboard job alone, it's worth the time savings. Inside corners can be rectified by a caulk artist, but outside corners are critical. I no longer waste trim, time or guess...
Customer Review: Good idea but poor execution Summary: 1 Stars
As a professional carpenter I thought ProSite Protractor would help me quickly determine exact single and miter cut angles. While the concept of this tool is right on I found the one I received unusable as the scale was off. A straight cut reading from the protractor of 90 degrees for example, would also show a reading of 46 or 47 degrees for the miter cuts. What? A miter for 90 degrees is 45. So this is unusable as duh...a miter cut even ½ a degree off is unacceptable even in the worst of times.
Needless to say, I returned this item and at least for now will return to my bevel gauge and trial and error but I hold out hope, that somewhere out there, in some distant enchanted land, a tool of this sort will shine in perfection and allow me the opportunity to make my job easier.
Customer Review: Gotta have one. Summary: 5 Stars
I had one of these before but couldn't find it so I bought another. It really comes in handy when your doing crown molding. It saves you from going up and down the ladder a hundred times making trial cuts or wasting a piece of material because the walls aren't built at the angles they're supposed to be. It helps you look like you know what you're doing.
