Tools and Hardware Reviews of Starrett 505A-12 ProSite 12-Inch Dial Protractor

Customer Review: Lot'sa uses
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used my new Starrett Protractor to set up my table and cross cut saws as well as find that difficult angle for crown molding.

Customer Review: My neighbor likes it!
Summary: 5 Stars

After seeing my protractor my neighbor went to Harbor Freight and purchased the same concept tool. After a few uses of his new acquisition he started borrowing mine.

Hey, this works for me and I find it to be very accurate.
Mostly I like it because it eliminates the need to think about the math -- it's automatic. I can then concentrate on not cutting off my fingers. That's a joke.

Customer Review: Needs Improving
Summary: 2 Stars

The Starrett 505A was off by a full degree this is not what I expected out of a precision instrument made by Starrett I have sent it back to Starrett to be "fixed" I am waiting on them to return it now.

Customer Review: Nice Tool!
Summary: 5 Stars

I own a small home improvement/remodeling company. I use this tool occasionally to help make complex miter joints and install crown molding. This tool is very accurate (1/10th degree resolution) and is built solidly (1/4" solid aluminum) the pivot joint is really tight, (no slop!) operates smoothly, and holds a reading/setting without moving. The numbers/letters on the dial are very clear and easy to read, and the red/black arrows make this tool virtually "idiot proof"...just swing the legs against two work surfaces (walls) read the number indicated by the red miter angle arrow, then go cut your material. Perfect fit every time! (If someone can manage to screw it up, they are either blind, or completely inept and should stick to...well, work that is less "hands on" or "challenging"!) This tool also functions like a conventional protractor for measurement of angles in degrees...just read the number that the black arrows point to and that's your angle. Overall, I am very glad I bought it and highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Nice time saver for your next moulding project!
Summary: 5 Stars

Instead of humping a 10 foot length of moulding back and forth between the bedroom and the mitre saw in the garage, just pick up one of these Starrett protractors and get your angles cut perfect the FIRST TIME! A real time (and wall) saver. If I would've had one of these on my first moulding project, I probably wouldn't have had to repaint the hallway after dragging the mouldings back and forth in frustration.
