Tools and Hardware Reviews of SteamFast SF-226 Handheld Steam Cleaner

Customer Review: More mist than steam
Summary: 1 Stars

I was expecting hot steam to melt away grease and what I got was 2 seconds of steam and than cool mist. You have to wait another 5 minutes to get 2 second of hot steam. Don't waste your time or money. A hot soapy sponge works better.

Customer Review: My Little Helper
Summary: 4 Stars

The Steamfast is great at those annoying chores like removing grime from counters, tubs, cleaning up spilled wax and grease. Those tasks generally mandate hours of scrubbing and sometimes little results are seen. I find I still need light chemicals to assist with tasks, but it does shave off time for those tough clean-ups as well as effort. For the price, you can't really beat what this little guy does. It saves me a lot of effort and helps me keep my kitchen and bath clean. I do find that it does drip excess water while steaming when I need to attack something at a certain angle (like from the side), but in general it works well. It is a little annoying that it needs to re-juice (cool down, re-fill, heat-up) after 8 minutes of steam time, but considering I'm not paying $2000 for a steam cleaner that can go like the energizer bunny, I think it's abilities are good for the price. It works well for the little tasks I have put it to and I consider it as an assistant for everyday chores so things don't build up and I can clean easily. The attachments work far better than I thought they would, particularly the window attachment and the brushes. This little cleaner is really designed to quickly clean annoying everyday chores, like counters, window sills, mirrors, and it does an excellent job at handling individual and small tasks (one window or task at a time). It is not designed or even priced for cleaning up a full house.

Those who need something with a bit more flexibility and "oomph" should consider a real steam cleaner which will be far more expensive. I'm more than satisfied with the help my little guy provides, although for bigger tasks, like floors, grout, the full shower (not just the tub and hardware), I'd recommend something that can steam for longer periods at a time, like the WhiteWing steam cleaner (my big guy), which is relatively inexpensive for such a high quality steam cleaner.

Customer Review: No steam, just a heated Limp Drip
Summary: 1 Stars

don't waste your $ on this, look for a better quality brand, maybe check consumerreports.com
i bought this item and i regret it, it started spitting then when it really got going...it was a limp drip out the nozzle, with steam coming off of the steaming hot water....and it doesnt hold much water, you better look for one that can contain more water.

Customer Review: Not Impressed...
Summary: 2 Stars

I was so excited to use this steam cleaner so I don't have to use strong chemicals that make me nauseous. I read the instructions and it said to sanitize you need to hold the steam 1/2" away and keep it on there for 5 seconds. I used it in the bathroom first -it did a great job on the mirrors! Then I took it to the sink -like another reviewer said didn't take the toothpaste off nor did it loosen up the dirt. I figured the hot steam would send the dirt running, but no such luck. Then to the shower...didn't even phase soap scum! It's a good idea and it does come with lots of attachments and a long cord, however I will look into buying a professional grade steam cleaner. I am returning mine today -but like I said it's great for cleaning mirrors! :-)

Customer Review: Not bad... does what it could.
Summary: 3 Stars

Not much to say... it's a low end, handheld steam cleaner -- meaning it can't compete in any way with professional models at twice the price. For the most past, it gets the job done. Set up took all of 5 minutes -- fill with water, attach a nozzle, wait for the light to signal it's ready, and steam away!

Most people will probably use the main nozzle (as pictured) and attack the usual areas -- bathroom, kitchen, and every other nook + cranny you can think of. It did a good job on all those areas.

It's light enough to carry around for a while, and the long power cord allowed for good flexibility. It removed most of the burnt-on grease inside the oven (though it took a few cycles).

As to be expected with a basic model, it doesn't take long to lose its' steam power, and it needs refilling rather quickly (so don't pump for steam if you don't need to). Also, depending on the angle being applied, it leaked more water than steam action to some surfaces. Additionally, I wish the main nozzle was longer, as I found myself unable to reach certain areas.

To sum up, it's fine for most basic household uses - but don't expect maximum power from a model like this. I found myself wanting to upgrade.
