Tools and Hardware Reviews of Strait-Line 6041300CD Intersect 1/8-Inch at 15-Feet Self Leveling Crossed Line LaserCustomer Review: Good Laser Level Summary: 5 Stars
After reading the last 3 reviews I didn't know what to expect when I received my tool. 2 reviewers gave it 1 star and 1 reviewer gave it 5 stars. I then realized that the people that respond to the reviews are either very excited about the product or sorely disappointed. My review comes from a DIY'er in Atlanta that found the tool very helpful. It seemed to be level and plumb and didn't mare my drywall. I even dropped the unit on my hardwood floor and it still worked. It is made of cheap plastic and probably not a good choice for a professional but works very well for a DIY'er like myself.
Customer Review: Good for home projects Summary: 4 Stars
It served its purpose well for the renovation projects around my house. I gave it four versus five star rating only because the black slider switch is a bit tough to move from one position to the next as it needs more grip(s) on the top surface.
Customer Review: Great auto level Summary: 4 Stars
I have owned 2 of these laser levels. The only reason that I'm going to purchase another one is that: 1) They are not impact proof. My first one fell off a ladder onto some wood and would not turn on afterwards. 2) They are not water proof. I was moving from Houston to Nevada and some of my tools got wet. The laser level was one of the items that got wet and started to stick on the auto leveling function.
These thing are not designed to come apart. If you try to take these things apart then you have to cut black part in half and then cut the top off. Afterwards there is no putting them back together and that is why I'm giving this item 4 out of 5 stars. I keep having to buy the same item over and over and I haven't seen another one like it yet.
The reason that it deserves 4 stars is that it shoots a laser strait across the front of it and a vertical line at the same time which means that you are in the center of your job. Mark once on the right of the level and then once on the left. I just bought the black and Decker auto level and you have to push a button to make the level switch sides from left to right and top. I'll be taking the black and Decker one back tomorrow.
Things that could be improved on is how it is secured to the wall. Manufactures want you to use mounting tape that comes with it to secure it to the wall. I tried it and it fell, at least that time it did not break. It would be nice if the level was impact and water proof. But alas the world revolves around the all mighty dollar. I would pay for a cover that would make this item water and impact proof though.
Customer Review: Great homeowner product Summary: 5 Stars
Great product for the money. It only works attached to the wall, not on a tripod. A professional would probably need a more expensive model, or alternately could use a traditional level for homeowner tasks like attaching a shelf to a wall (which is what I bought this for), but I was able to get a professional result myself without buying a professional model level, so I consider this a successful purchase.
Customer Review: Great when it works, but not reliable Summary: 2 Stars
When the laser is operating at full intensity, the tool is very useful. More often, however, the laser dims dramatically and I have to tap the case several times to restore the proper brightness. The slightest vibration causes the laser to dim again, frustrating my attempts to use this tool.
If I had it to do over again, I would gladly pay more for a higher quality laser tool.
