Tools and Hardware Reviews of Streamlight 51010 Twin-Task 3C 9-Inch UV Flashlight, BlackCustomer Review: Great Build Summary: 5 Stars
Excellent product. 2 different wavelengths of UV light gives flexibility, while the white bulb makes it more useful than a strictly ultraviolet light. Build quality is phenomenal.
Customer Review: Great light Summary: 4 Stars
My teenage son got this to go out at night to hunt for scorpions as the UVblack makes them glow in the dark. it is very bright on white light. He is very happy with it.
Customer Review: Great light if you have indoor pets. Summary: 4 Stars
Picks up urine stains very well in both UV spectrums, the 375 NM does a much better job at finding those puddles in carpet and tile. It has to be used at night withe lights off but it does a great job. The plain white light is a major plus as I did not want to buy a flashlight that only saw "pee". It is rugged and well made, bright enough for general purpose use and wherever else you would need a UV light.
Customer Review: Great light, can't change bulb though. Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this light for several years now. Extremely bright with xenon bulb, however it needs to be changed now, it's getting dim. Can't figure out how to change bulb nor can I get Streamlight to tell me how. The UV light is great for spotting scorpions at my house in Arizona.
Customer Review: Great service and scorpions too! Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this light in July of 2009. The Xenon bulb quit working in the first week. So why the heck would I rate it a five!? Service (way) after the fact. I walk several hundred miles a year through the Algodones Dunes Wilderness Area and a significant portion of it is at night looking for scorpions. This light does that VERY well. The fact that I have another light that I prefer for visible light, and that I might have to register myself as a procrastinator extraordinaire, I never did anything about that portion of this light not working. I happened to be working on a warranty issue for another unrelated product (with way less than satisfactory results so will not even go there) so I contacted Streamlight to see what we could do. Five minutes and done! The knowledgeable young lady on the phone said send it back and we will send a new one right away. That is customer service! I feel this is a quality light and the fact that they stand behind it rates five stars.
So how well does it work for finding scorpions? Fantastic!! The two wave lengths basically light up the same things. The lowest may fluoresce a few things a little more but it is basically a dimmer light and you have to get the light very close or in very dark situations. The higher UV wave length puts out a brighter light and lights up the scorpions exceptionally well with a bit less distance on moonlit nights. In situations where you are looking solely for scorpions you use just the UV light. A typical night of exploration in the dunes means that you are looking for lizards, snakes and bugs too! A very effective way to explore the desert at night is too use a good bright flashlight to see all that is ahead and around you yet carry your UV light turned on and pointed toward the ground. You will be amazed at how many scorpions you would have stepped on otherwise as they blend in so well.
