Tools and Hardware Reviews of Streamlight 51016 3-AA Luxeon LED Task Flashlight, Titanium

Customer Review: Great Value, Great light
Summary: 5 Stars

I like the fact that it is small and easily packable. I like the fact i can carry AA batteries in case it runs out and not the CR2 camera batteries that cost a fortune. This light is well worth the money. I have had several lights and this one, for the purpose in which I bought (tracking deer at night) is perfect. Very bright and I would highly recommend.

Customer Review: Nice LED Light
Summary: 4 Stars

This LED flashlight has quality aluminum construction with a good on/off switch that's easy to use with one hand. I would say that the beam is about as bright as the incandescent equivalent flashlight, with the exception that the light output is very white compared to a standard flashlight. The beam pattern is a cross between a spot and a flood (probably more towards a spot) and is slightly focusable. Don't get your hopes up though. The focusing is quite limited. I'm not aware of any other LED flashlight that is focusable at all. I think there is a limitation with the technology. All in all, I find this flashlight to have a very useful beam. The LED bulb has a 10,000 hour rated life, and one should expect a set of batteries to last significantly longer than with a standard flashlight bulb, since LED's are much more efficient. The only drawback to me is that the flashlight is a bit long, since it uses 3 AA batteries. For the price, one would be hard pressed to find a better quality LED flashlight which is as bright as this one.

Customer Review: Only OK
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm fairly new to LED flashlights, and didn't realize that there was no regulated output on this one. Okay for the price, and nicely made, but the information that comes with the product shows it starts with 95 lumens and dives to 45 after 4 hours and only 10 after 16 hours. I wish I had spent more for a more powerful unit that kept a steady output.

Customer Review: Streamlight 3-AA Luxeon LED Task Flashlight
Summary: 5 Stars

I'd never heard of Luxeon LED until I used this light. It is incredibly bright and super white! Which is a good thing in any maintenance environment. Better than straight LED by a mile! The light is NOT focusable, but combined with the brightness and beam design isn't needed at all. The Streamlight description says "Computer machined aluminum with an anodized finish." This does not do it justice. It has a single piece body, this includes the bulb housing (unlike Mag that comes apart at end covers AND neck). This is not flimsy thin aluminum either. It is very solid and thick, quality, aluminum with machined knurls along the body that are actually useable with all kinds of gloves and when things get slippery. Anyone who has used Mag or similar knock offs with gloves or in the goo will relate to that statement. It is thick and doesn't scratch or dent easily. Again compare. The end result is a very lightweight, highly durable light with outstanding, quality seals that is suitable for any harsh maintenance/industrial environment. The button is sealed with very thick chemical resistant rubber and takes a solid push to actuate because of the heavy duty mechanism. No problem in daily use, even with heavy leather gloves. The lens cover is polycarbonate as stated in the product description. I think that needs a bit of elaboration. In applications where frequent contact with oils, chemicals, or detergents is unavoidable this type of FULLY SEALED lens cover is absolutely necessary. This version is longer than similar sized lights and not really suitable for the pocket, though I know many that do and prefer that. I carry mine on my belt in a simple ring type leather holster made for lights this approximate diameter.
It is an investment for a small light due to the price, but mine has lasted over two years of daily use and abuse in a VERY harsh industrial production environment without a single issue. I can personally attest to its impact survivability having accidentally (stupidly) dropped it to the concrete a few times from a good distance. If you're a maintenance or operator type like me and value the type of quality tools necessary to earn a living in a professional environment, this is a good buy.

Customer Review: Streamlight 3-AA Luxeon flashlight
Summary: 5 Stars

This flashlight produces even illumination that seems very bright for only three AA cells. Size is handy. Barrel is easy to grasp and non-slip. Lanyard is a thoughtful feature. "Titanium" color makes it easier to find in the dark than its black equivalent. At first I was disappointed the flashlight wasn't made in the USA like my Streamlight Stylus, but the workmanship and function appear fine, so in the end I have no complaint. A more than satisfactory product. I bought two, one for the glove box of my car and one for bedside.
