Tools and Hardware Reviews of Streamlight 66318 MicroStream C4 LED Pen Flashlight

Customer Review: Best small flashlight on the market
Summary: 5 Stars

I have currently purchased 4 flashlights. Once I have showed it to people they take it from me and I have to order another one. Looks like I will need to order another 2 again soon. Battery life is very good. Unbelievable light from a single AAA battery. It comes with a lanyard that is very usefull. I cook outside and use it there. I am a musician and the lanyard attachment comes in handy setting up equipement. Plenty of light.

Customer Review: Bright little light
Summary: 5 Stars

Solid construction and very powerful. I am a IT tech and this small light is used daily in our server room to trace Ethernet cables. Easily a pocketable item for EDC. This light fits into the side elastic pocket of my Leatherman holster. Highly recommend! The shell feels like it is indestructible. The clip is mounted and does not move. I can't comment on the battery life as the original battery has not died on me since I got it (1 week ago).

Customer Review: Broken on arrival
Summary: 1 Stars

Like the title indicates, my microstream flashlight was useless right out of the package. To start, the battery was inserted backward (negative end first, contrary to both the battery replacement instructions written in the packaging and wrong according to the image on the interior of the battery tube). I know that it's common to do this to prevent battery drain in the event of accidental activation, but it's an odd choice for packaging that's supposed to allow a customer to *test* the light before purchasing.

After reversing the battery to the correct position, the light simply won't turn on. I clicked quite a few times, with no results. Interestingly, as I unscrewed the cap, the light briefly flared, only to die again.

I changed the battery, thinking the first might have died somehow, but this didn't improve the results. It's simply garbage. For something with an MSRP of $27, I expect more than a momentary flicker of light as I try to make the thing work.

There's no indication at all that it was damaged during shipping. The shipment packaging was secure, with no scuffs. The product packaging was likewise fine. Shaking the light produces no sound of loose parts. It's simply dead on arrival.

Customer Review: Capable Pocket Flashlight
Summary: 5 Stars

This little flashlight produces a respectable amount of light from its one AAA battery. It is not the brightest or smallest light out there, but it performs well enough for small tasks in close quarters; it is small enough to clip on a bag or even a shirt pocket; and the level of fit and finish is superb. The clicky tail cap works flawlessly for momentary and continuous on. The beam is focused and white.The only minor inconvenience is that the pocket clip gets in the way when changing batteries, and it marks up the body of the light a little when screwing/unscrewing it. I find this light too big for my keychain, opting instead for the slightly smaller (and cheaper) Fenix E01 Compact LED Flashlight, but your milage may vary.

Overall, this little light delivers exactly what I expected for the price and I recommend it without reservation.

Customer Review: Cute light.
Summary: 5 Stars

Once upon a time, I loved MAG lights. They are still pretty decent for their cost. But MAG has little to offer in LED lighting, so I ended up looking at other brands.

I have to say that overall I am impressed with this light. There is only one minor flaw, as others have said, that you can scratch the light barrel when changing batteries due to the clip scratching it.

But on the other hand, did you buy this light to use it or have it become a museum piece?

The light really cannot be called waterproof. The manufacturer sez it is water-resistant to IP-X4.

IP ratings are the devices Ingress Protection (IEC Standard 60529; Ingress Protection; adopted by ANSI-60529). The first digit "x" in the IP rating is the protection against foreign objects such as dust, and x = "not specified", or "don't care". The second digit '4' in the rating means that the light is resistant to "Splashing Water", whatever that means.

For those of you that are not familiar with them, the IP waterproof ratings are as follows:

0 = No Protection
1 = dripping water
2 = dripping water tilted up to 15 deg.
3 = spraying water (water spray tilted up to 60 deg).
4 = splashing water
5 = water jets
6 = power water jets
7 = immersion in water up to 1m
8 = immersion in water beyond 1m

If you want detailed information as to what those descriptions mean, google IEC 60529.

One thing I immediately noticed was that the light pattern was smooth all the way to the outside edges. The center has a bright spot, but there are no dark spots caused by the reflector as there are with MAG lights. This I believe is the result of a quality design. While they are made in China, they are better than the typical uber-Chinese junk I have usually come to expect.
