Tools and Hardware Reviews of Streamlight 73001 Nano Light Miniature Keychain LED Flashlight, Black

Customer Review: Light is great, but falls apart on keychain
Summary: 1 Stars

Well -- I read the reviews where people lost half the light, but it's pretty cheap, so why not try it out and see if we can fix that issue.

Nope -- lasted a couple of weeks on my keychain, then I needed the light and just the tail was left on my chain. How disappointing. I think I'm done with twisty on-off -- guess I'll buy a Preon REVO or a AA light instead.

FWIW -- the key factor to all LED lights is how much current they can draw from the batteries. So a 1AA light will ALWAYS be dimmer than 2AA. This keychain light uses 4 button cells, so you get a surprisingly bright illumination -- MUCH brighter than the Photon-III i previously used. But that Photon has been on my keychain for 6 years and hasn't fallen apart -- so it depends on your needs -- do you want your light to still be there when you need it?

Streamlight -- if you're listening -- PLEASE create a version with a clicky switch instead -- this would be the absolute king of the keychain market if you did that.

Customer Review: Like a shining star...
Summary: 5 Stars

This tiny light is a beacon of hope in a dark foreboding forest. A raft of certainty adrift among a sea of doubt.

It's also really darn bright.

Customer Review: Little Big Light
Summary: 5 Stars

This little flashlight, thrown in as a freebie during a Streamlight promotion, has earned a permanent place on my keychain. It's no larger than a small key fob, doesn't turn itself on in my pocket (no buttons to press), and puts out an impressive, bright light. It's not always easy to turn it on with one hand, but has overall been a pleasant surprise. I'm considering buying several of them as stocking-stuffers this year: Every keychain should have one.

(1)Rugged barrel. (2)LED recessed in head; well protected. Main reason I bought this one. Most keychain lights have an exposed LED. Can be bashed by keys. Probably will break if dropped on asphalt. Not this one.(3)Very bright LED. Brighter than my larger Maglite Solitaire. (4) Great clasp. Spring loaded. Easy to take light off keychain if needed, but won't fall off accidentally....Now the one (-). No positive on/off switch. Turns on/off by rotating the head like the small Maglites. Maglite got it right. Light is off when the head is tightened down. Unlikely to accidentally loosen and turn on (or have the head fall off). Streamlight got it wrong. Light is "on" when the head is tightened down. Normal "off" position is with the head loose. If you loosen it just a little bit, light will turn on if the head is pushed down (likely when it's in your pocket banging around with keys). If you loosen it a lot to keep that from happening, head could work loose banging around with keys...or when dropped. I expect someday I'll drop it, the head will pop off, and the batteries will spill out. Just need to check the head now and then.

Note added: I've lived with this unit for almost two months now. After you use it enough times, the head turns more freely, making it even easier to come off accidentally. It's now popped off four times, but fortunately in my pocket. I was able to retrieve the batteries. By the way, the batteries are hard to install. There's a lot of clearance between the batteries and the inside of the barrel. The batteries are tiny and hard to handle. As you load them, they easily flip and the polarity gets reversed. Definitely not something you can do fumbling around in the dark. So I now check the head each day to make sure it's not too loose. If Streamlight would redesign this switching mechanism, it would be one of the top most handy products around.

Customer Review: Meh

OK Light. Very bright for its size. But, as other reviewers have noted, it comes apart unexpectedly, causing you to lose pieces (like batteries which cost more than the light itself). This light, like a mag-lite is turned on and off by rotating the bezel. Unlike a mag-light, however, this light comes on when you tighten the bezel, not when you loosen it. That means you need to keep it loosened to be off, which leads to it falling apart altogether. It should be designed to be off when tightened all the way.
