Customer Review: Any type of DISHWASHER LIQUID works just as well for stinky washer

Don't pay premium money for these "specialty" cleaners. Just run an empty load cycle once a month or week (depending on how much you use your clothes washer) using REGULAR LIQUID DISHWASHER SOAP. - use about the same amount or a bit less than you would use in the dishwasher. You can put the dishwasher soap directly into the washer tub instead of the washer soap dispenser. The enzymes in the dishwasher soap will clean out any funky smell and get everything nice and clean. think about it- with all the muck that goes in your dishwasher, why is it not 5x as stinky as your clothes washer?? it's the detergent.
Tips:
1. leave front load washer door open a crack after doing washes. this will let the tub dry out / prevent stink.
2. use less liquid detergent. using too much liquid detergent is a cause of stink.
We had stinky washer all the time, I run an empty cycle once per month with a couple of capfuls of dishwasher liquid, and adhere to #1 and #2 above, and we have never had the stink return. Our front load washer is 8 years old.

We found Washer Magic to be very helpful with our chronic HE washer odor problem. Running bleach-only cycles gave us very short-term relief. We did 2 "magic" cycles (1 bottle each) and found the washer (and our clothes!) to be free of the musty odor that our front-loader had been plagued with. We have since ordered a case and use a bottle every month or so when the washer starts to smell again.Customer Review: Great product!

If you have rust in your water and your washing machine has a foul smell from the rust, use this product at the first sign of odor and it will be clean again! It is a great product. I couldn't do without it.Customer Review: Helped, but didn't eliminate the moldy odor.

I used two bottles of Washer Magic. Although it helped some, it wasn't enough to invest in more bottles. Then I tried Smelly Washer for 3 cycles, which also did not work. I tried bleach and that was of no help. I had already cleaned the entire rubber seal very well, so I figured the mold must be somewhere on the backside of the drum where I couldn't see it.
What finally worked almost all the way was Anti Icky Poo. I had purchases this months ago for an cat urine accident (sick kitty) and it worked well for that problem. It dawned on me that it might work for the washer mold and certainly couldn't hurt at this point to try it after the others didn't clear it. I knew I was on the right track with this, even though it is not it's intended use.
The finishing touch that left my washer odor free was a similar product: Simple Solution's Natural Cat Stain & Odor Eliminator. I'll be using this regularly as part of my washer's maintenance from this point forward. That, and leaving the door open after washing, until it's had some time to dry out.
Just add the odor eliminator into the liquid soap compartment (I filled mine about 1/2 way), set the empty washer for a load of 'whites' with a temp of 'sanitize', and let it run full cycle. Then wipe dry when it's done and leave the door open, if you can do so safely, so the rest of the parts you can't wipe down will dry. I left mine open all night. What a pleasure it is to have the awful smell gone!

We had tried EVERYTHING to combat the odor problem we had with our front loader HE washer. We were about to buy a different washer because of the chronic odor problem when we purchased this product. I can not tell you the difference this made. NO MORE SMELL PERIOD! I use this every month or so and it works GREAT! I'm glad I tried it. I was very skeptical that it would work but it does.
