Customer Review: Worked for what I needed

I, like another reviewer, bought this to pull a stump, this one a live oak with a very stubborn attachment to our limestone rocks in the yard. Got all the accessible roots cut through around about 60% of the stump then hooked this puppy up on the remaining side, tying it to another tree with a tow strap. I would NOT say that I had a great deal of confidence in the long-term strength of this tool, but it did the job. I was extremely paranoid about a broken cable, but hoped the tow strap would give way first, giving me a chance to jump out of the way. Nothing failed. Considering what I would have paid to have the stump removed or ground, I came out ahead even if I throw it away now. That's why the 4 stars. If I was going to use it all the time, I'd opt for a pricier, sturdier tool.
Keep in mind that the 5-ton capacity is "pulling", not "lifting". The rated capacity for lifting IS 2 tons. "Pulling" generally doesn't involve continuous dead weight (but our stump pulling did, at least until the remaining roots snapped). And releasing/extending the cable was definitely cumbersome, but I managed it okay.
