Tools and Hardware Reviews of Surefire E2D-BK Defender 60 Lumens Incandescent Flashlight Strike Bezel Black

Customer Review: A Self defence flashlight
Summary: 3 Stars

The first thing that caughts one's eye when looking at E2D are the heavy "teeth" around the bezel and end cap of the flashlight. The purpose of these teeth is to facilitate using the flashlight as a striking tool or nerve point manipulation instrument, much like Kubotan. The flashlight is designed to be sturdy enough to withstand the impact forces if used as a striking tool, for example the tempered glass lens is extra thick.

The body of the flashlight is somewhat small, in fact it can be too small with persons with large hands. In that case the teeth in the end cap can dig painfully into one's palm. The flashlight has a removable pocket clip, and that's the way it should be carried. If using a holster, the slimness of the flashlight can cause it falling through the holster, if it's open at the bottom. And in any case, the teeth on the end cap make reholstering the flashlight a bit difficult.

The light switch has no momentary on function (it's a click-on switch), but if operated with the thumb partially on top of the teeth of the end cap, the light switch won't depress so much that it will click on. However, that way the teeth can bite quite painfully into your thumb. Not having a momentary on light switch is a serious drawback in a flashlight intended for self defence appilications The light switch has a lock out function, preventing accidental activation if carried inside a pocket, for example.

The light beam of the flashlight is calibrated so that it is very bright at short ranges (under ten feet), but the intensity of the light drops quite dramatically at extended ranges (say, over hundred feet). The intensity of the light beam can match quality tactical flashlights only at very close range. Therefore this flashlight is not suited very well for law enforcement or other security trade professions. It's a good flashlight for it's intended purpose (self defense), but by far not the best I have seen.

Customer Review: Awesome flashlight, a little outdated!
Summary: 4 Stars

Do not get me wrong I love this flashlight. The design and construction is first rate and the quality is unmatched by any other manufacturer. My only wish is that it was brighter than 60 lumens. Surefire is just now catching up to other torch manufacturers who now produce 200+ lumen LED bulbs with multiple lighting modes. The incandescent bulbs are a thing of the past. To surefires credit they have recently produced the E2DL model that is an L.E.D version of the E2D that produces 200 lumens on one setting and 5 lumens on another setting to conserve battery power. I love this torch for it's self defense features and there is something to be said for the 60 lumens it does produce. This is still enough light to blind an attacker and the incandescent light is more natural than L.E.D light. I gave it 4 stars because It's younger brother the E2DL is the better option if your willing to spend the extra 40 dollars. Overall it is a first rate torch.

Customer Review: Best Flashlight for under $100.
Summary: 5 Stars

I own a 1/2 dozen surefire flashlights. This one is small, light, durable and bright. The striker bezel is a great impact weapon as well. I carry this one with me, all the other ones have their own places around the house and cars. If you can't afford this price point but need a bright flashlight, go with their G2 Nitrolon: for $35 it can't be beat. If you don't need the blinding 60 lumens this model provides but have the bucks to spend, then take a look at the LED models they offer such as the L1 LumaMax or E2L Outdoorsman; They don't provide the high intensity, but the batteries last much longer and their slightly higher price pays for itself in battery cost and replacement bulb cost savings. Nothing beats a Sure-Fire flashlight!

Customer Review: Best Flashlight....Ever.....
Summary: 5 Stars

The E2D light is, in my opinion, the best flashlight money can buy. It's not expensive when you look at the power this thing puts out. You can light up a whole field with this pocket-sized light. The E2D can blind somebody with night adjusted vision for up to 10 minutes, and can be used (if need be) as a severely effective weapon. It's a great light when you work in a theater, or when you work as a police officer (or anything in between I suppose). This flashlight is one hundred percent quality....I wouldn't choose anything else.

Customer Review: Best There Is
Summary: 5 Stars

The only way I will replace this light is if it gets lost. This is an outstanding piece of equipment, and worth every penny. More of a weapon than the big Mag-Lites, brighter, lighter, more compact, and clearly a better engineered tool. I run a bar, and I walk to work, this light never leaves my side. Do yourself a favor if you can afford it, or save some money and buy the equally well made G2Z Nitrolon. You can't go wrong.
