I purchased this intercom for my 91 year old father who lives alone with the assistance from a nurse/companion. He is extremely active for his age. Getting a visual of anyone at his front door is not a problem but he wanted to be able to communicate with the visitor before opening the door, especially at night. This unit was extremely simple to install. The volume and sound quality of the unit is more than adaquate. I first thought that I would have to turn the volume down because it seemed to me to be a little loud, but with his hearing getting worse the booming volume has proved to be a plus. He did not mount the second unit which makes it handy to move about the house from room to room and take with you. We are well pleased with the price, quality and performance of this intercom and would recommend it to anyone.Customer Review: Takes Some Getting Used To

I bought these things to use between upstairs and downstairs in my home. We only used them several times before one refused to work. My son dismantled it and repaired it. We used it ONE more time and the other unit refused to work. The workmanship and quality of the electronics in the units is terrible. The sound is awful, it's hard to understand unless you speak very slowly and clearly. These things are NOT worth the money!! Do yourself a favor and buy a megaphone or something!! We've gone back to shouting between rooms, it's so much less frustrating!!Customer Review: Ugly as hell, but easy set-up and seems to work ok

PROS: Easy set-up and installation. Works as described.
CONS: Ugly. Cannot finely control volume. It only uses a dip-switch of high/low volume (not very helpful).
OVERALL: Overall, I'm satisfied because it does it's main job well enough (I knew it was ugly when I ordered it).

Sound isn't clear. No external volume control (you can increase the volume by flipping a DIP switch mounted on the circuit board inside, but you have to take the unit apart to do it). Luckily I bought them from Amazon so returning them was no problem.
