Tools and Hardware Reviews of Tanaka TBL-7800R 65cc 4-2/7 HP 2-Stroke Backpack Blower with Tube-Mounted Throttle

Customer Review: King of the Blowers
Summary: 5 Stars

I have bought many products on Amazon and this is the first that I insist on taking the time to give it its due justice. This is the best blower i have ever used. Hands down. It has plenty of power to clear anything i put in its path. I had a pile of 3+ year old leaves and lawn clippings that was getting too big to handle, within a few minutes i had blasted the pile from the edge of my property well into the woods. Half the time i use it i just let it idle to clear my walkway deck and patio. Cruise control is a great feature. Low Emissions. The envy of all my neighbors! It is lightweight and you can just feel the power that this machine has. This is a serious piece of equipment and i consider it a life long investment. I am not a commercial landscaper. I dont even own a full acre. I do own the best backpack leaf blower available...

Customer Review: Powerful commercial grade blower that will get it done!
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently purchased one of these and have been impressed. I am not a commercial landscaper, but a homeowner with many trees that can be a problem in the fall. In my research, I found that this blower is pretty much a rebadged Redmax 7100. The only difference that I can find is the air filter and housing. There aren't many reviews about the Tanaka online, but if you research the Redmax ebz7100, you will be doing pretty much an "apples to apples" comparison, although, for whatever reason, the airflow numbers on the Tanaka are a bit higher.
This thing is a flat out beast! It isn't too heavy and not at all uncomfortable , but it will absolutely move some leaves (and sticks, rocks, acorns, etc). I bought it to replace a Husqvarna 145bt, which was a bulletproof soldier for many years (and is still running well to this day). I needed something stronger to shorten my spring and fall cleanups and the Tanaka fits the bill. It's well constructed, started right up, and really blows strong. The only potential negative that I could find is noise. It's a pretty loud machine, but what strong backpack isn't? I think it sounds cool, as I'm a hotrodder. It sounds just like a dirtbike at idle! While the sound doesn't bother me in the least, if you live in a garden home and/or have sensitive neighbors, it may not be for you. But if you are looking for a stout workhorse that will really shorten your workload, don't hesitate. This is a fine piece of equipment.

Customer Review: Really good blower
Summary: 4 Stars

Really good product. I have only used typical electric blowers in the past. This is different and works much better. Electric blowers seem to have a fast, narrow air flow. The Tanaka is more about volume and moves lots of air. Does a great job of moving big piles of leaves. I have a large area to do and lots of trees. It does get heavy, so I need to work for 30 or 40 minutes, then take a break. The machine starts easy and runs well. I suppose it's not necessary but I wish you could reach the choke while wearing the blower. Otherwise, very nice.

Customer Review: Tanaka TBL 7800R Huge Appetite for Leaves!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this after my friend let my try his top of the line Echo. I had a gift card so I had to purchase what Amazon carried. I am a homeowner with 2 large properties and large numerous trees. I have to move all the leaves to the road or the ravine, so I must be able to move a large quantity a long distance. This had a 7 year warranty on it for consumer use (Shindiawa had less), so I pulled the trigger. Before this, I was raking a blowing leaves with a corded blower...oh why did I wait for so long!!! I think I paid about $480 with free shipping. You might get it cheaper on E-bay?

Packaging: Fantastic, easy to remove from box and all was protected well with little waste.

Assembly: Less than 15 minutes, very simple and good directions.

Starting: Starts up in 5 or so pulls every time and takes no time to warm up at all. Once it starts, you can start blowing. Easy gas mixture (50 to 1) so it matches my Stihl Trimmer.

Performance: Very comfortable. It seems to sit on your low back so it doesn't seem to cause strain. I usually use it for up to 2 hours at a time. It is loud, so make sure you have ear protection. It is absolutely powerful enough for anyone and any job. It is nimble and easy to navigate around trees and in tight corners. I can't tell which machine, the Stihl or the Tanaka, has more power, so they must be close. I researched for hours and went to all manufacturers websites before buying it. The pistol grip to me seems easier. This allows me to use my other hand to pick up sticks or enjoy a cigar. This is a sturdy, well made machine that I hope to use for years to come.

Cons: Loud (but most are), ugly color (for those who care), no gutter attachment (but I will rig one), the primer bulb is tucked under the carb which makes it hard to get to (but not a big deal).

You should have no concerns about this machine. I have purchased my share of disposable consumer brand trimmers, blowers, mowers, etc. I now only buy the good stuff...what a difference.

Customer Review: easy start, easy to use
Summary: 5 Stars

right out of the box, easy to assemble hoses and setup. The directions were good, nice to follow. It starts right up every time and is very powerful. I like the fact that the gas cap is attached to the tank and the speed switch is comfortable. Its a little cumbersome getting it on your back until using it a couple of times. It does a great job and will blow wet leaves as well as dry.
