Our son bought us the Thermacell and we used it in the wilds of Idaho. We all agreed it kept the mosquitoes and black flies away, but you have to stay alert when you're using this. So you may have gone camping to "get away from it all" but you have to run a timer with these things. The mats ONLY last 4 hours. the butane cartridge ONLY lasts 12 hr. You CANNOT get away with running the mat the length of the cartridge. Besides, you buy the refill in a package of 3 mats/one cartridge. You'll be wasting your cartridge if you don't change the mats out 3 times during the cartridge life.
Description of ThermaCELL R-4 Mosquito Repellent Refill - Value Pack
ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent works to protect you from bugs by using the repellent, allethrin. Allethrin is a synthetic analog (chemical copy) of a naturally occurring insecticide, pyrethrin, found in the pyrethrum flower of the Chrysanthemum family. Refills can be stored for long periods of time and do not have to be used all at once. When done using, turn the unit off and restart when ready. It should be stored in a dry, dark place if time between uses is more than a week. Mat must be replaced when it changes from blue to white.Tools and Hardware
