Tools and Hardware Reviews of Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025

Customer Review: 100 year snowfall in spokane wa
Summary: 5 Stars

Spokane experienced 70 plus inches of snowfall in 30 days. This snowblower kept up with it all. Sometimes we had 18 inches in 1 snowfall. I was very, very impressed with this lightweight blower. So were my neighbors who borrowed it.

Customer Review: 12 years and still working fine
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had my current unit for 12 years and it still works great. It is terrific not to have to deal with the maintenance issues of a gas unit. Where I used to live in Northern NJ, my drive was between two houses and 110' long so a lot of the snow had to be moved twice. Now I live in Massachusetts and have a gravel drive. I do have a few tips for new users.

1. MOST IMPORTANT, if you need a 100' cord (and you probably do) make sure it is 12 gauge wire. I burned the motor out of the first one I owned by using a 150' 14 gauge extension cord. If you burn out the motor you might as well buy a new unit because the motor itself is about $260.

2. It can be difficult to get thru snow higher than about 10". When you are in deep or wet snow, don't take a full width bite.

3. On the street plowed pile at the end of your drive, break it up with a shovel. If it has re-frozen the unit will just sort of walk up it. The rotor is a tough plastic but it can't break up big icy chunks.

4. If you have to blow the snow twice to get it out of the way, clear the area you are going to send it to first (especially with a heavy snow fall) So it is not dealing all of the snow at once.

5. If you have a gravel drive, and are careful it doesn't pick up much but don't blow snow against your house unless you like the dimpled look and broken windows.

Customer Review: 15 years old and still gowing strong
Summary: 5 Stars

Owned this electric snow blower for 15 years. It runs and runs and runs! I would buy it again

Customer Review: 2 car driveway and 60 ft sidewalk - gets the job done
Summary: 5 Stars

I had my doubts about an electric snow blower, but after having used this through numerous storms this past winter, I am now a believer!

Pros:
1. Lightweight - I can lift this thing with one arm using the convenient handle. Try that with any of the gas blowers.
2. Maneuverable (related to #1) - Given it's small footprint and light weight, I can push this thing around anywhere and get into tight spaces.
3. No maintenance - there isn't any hardcore upkeep of this thing - at least like there is with a gas blower.
4. Ample power - I find it fairly easy to push depending on the amount and texture of snow. I haven't had any issues clearing my driveway and sidewalk using the Toro 1800 (in NJ).
5. Quiet - Again compared to a gas powered blower, this thing is quiet as heck emitting a small motor sound only when you hit the "trigger"

Cons:
1. Wheels - little on the small side, but when you're pushing against 6 inches of snow, you're not really rolling on wheels anwyay
2. Not going to get you through crazy storms - this is no surprise, but this thing is prob. not made for 2 ft. packed snow. I have had no problems however with the recent storms.

Overall a (surprisingly) great product.

Customer Review: 2 rounds and the belt shredded!

Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025
The title says it all. i may not have another chance to use the blower this season. 4 passes on my driveway and it stopped. i opened up the side and the large belt was shredded. it could have been poor quality control....i don't know. it doesn't bode well for my choosing Toro products...and i love their mowers.
