Tools and Hardware Reviews of Toro 1800 18-Inch 12 Amp Electric Curve Snow Thrower #38025Customer Review: 2 seasons use Summary: 4 Stars
I live in north east ohio and we don't get the snowfall that Buffalo gets but have seen 12" at one time. This amount is too much for the electric blower but it will chop away until the job is done. Wet snow, any amount, will clog the chute and it is necessary to clear it by hand. Wet snow or deep snow decreases the throwing distance down to just several feet but repeated passes will get it done.
I replaced a d****d 2 cycle gas unit with this blower and for this area of the country it is satisfactory and less troublesome than the 2 cycle blower....it is always ready.
The cord is bothersome but you get used to it as long as you use a cord designated for cold weather use (it is more flixible)
Will buy another electric when this one gets tired!
Customer Review: 2nd year and going strong! Summary: 5 Stars
We've had this Toro electric almost two winters now. It is used on a 75X50 foot driveway and sidewalks. It's smooth and blows snow twice as far as our 5hp gas Toro. It goes through snow as high as it's opening and will go through wet snow of about 4-5 inches. The cord can be a pain, but, not the pain of gassing up, oiling and starting a vibrating gas model. Sure it's made of plasic, very tough plastic. Like your car trim or most of every thing else you own. If you wait till the end of winter, you may find it at a nice sale price.
Customer Review: 4 winters and still working! Summary: 3 Stars
I am unable to fairly review the snow thrower at this time(June) so I have given it a neutral three. It is possible, here in Minnesota, that I may have a thorough review as early as September 10.
I can speak from experience regarding this thrower.(4 MN winters going on 5) I clear snow on the north side of my garage here in MN. The driveway is about 900 sq. ft. I cleared an 8 inch snowfall in about 45 Minutes today. This includes the entrance to my driveway from a main artery. The 16 foot wide opening is always full of heavily packed snow since county plows travel by numerous times to keep this street open. (requires slow but steady effort)I bought this at a reduced price in June,2006. $195 according to my account. An added bonus is my kids were willing to help if there was any chance of using the blower. It is very well designed for safe use. I would "let" them use it for the last 10-15 minutes if they did the steps, railings etc. Worked like a charm. Away at school now. Well if you use this 10 times a year you will have paid for it in one year by avoiding the commercial fees. From that point using this tool is making you $25+ each time.
Customer Review: 5 Star Toro Summary: 5 Stars
I've only used it twice so far so I cannot comment on the Toro's longevity. However, it handled a 10" snow and a wet 4-5" snowfall well. I'm talking about a nice bit of area it covered. Of course it is best to do the snow in stages and not wait until it gets high. Also, maneuvering the electrical cord takes a little getting use to. I like it so much that I got my sister-in-law one. Shop around for the best price.
Customer Review: 5 Stars With Reservations Summary: 5 Stars
I love it!!
I give it 5 stars with reservations. I put this together in no time, had no problem with getting the handle to line up, just used a flashlight to help see the holes lined up. I find the extension cord be be no problem at all, its very lightweight and only 50' long, my driveway is 1 car wide, 2 car long.
It works great and beats shoveling.
I read all the reviews carefully before buying, knowing that sometimes you get a dud. The belt issue was worrying me, but i bought it anyway for my significant other for Christmas. Well, it snowed before Christmas so i gave it to him early. (We're in our 50's, so i didn't want us shoveling because of heart attacks etc, plus getting a small driveway plowed adds up moneywise). So..he had to work, i got to snowblow. It was fantastic!! Then the next snow I brought the blower out for him and he got 2 little pushes and it stopped! I took it apart and tried to put the belt back on myself, but it was too tight, the hardware store did it for me. So it snowed 2 days ago, i took it out, 2 little pushes and it stopped!! I was ready to cry. I pulled the side off it and was able to put belt back on (the way it was sitting, i think the guy put in on wrong) anyway, took it back out and worked like a charm! So, needless to say, i am still impressed with this toro, I will see how it works the next storm.
