The fan does not blow enough air into the helmet. If you wear the unit while actively working, your heavy breath will overwhelm the weak air flow.
Other reviewers have pointed out the great combination of helmet, hearing protection, face shield and air cleaning. There just is not enough airflow to keep the face shield from fogging up. The helmet gets so hot it is intolerable. Many reviewers mention the problem in passing. I should have paid more attention. Professional units like the one made by 3M cost a lot more but they work.
Description of Triton PRA001 Powered Respirator
The dust created when using power tools is not just a nuisance, it can be hazardous to your health. Whether operating a table saw, router, sander, or even a chainsaw, Tritons Powered Respirator is the solution! It provides complete personal protection for your lungs, eyes, ears and head. A filtered stream of air flows down the inside of the visor, supplying clean air for your lungs and keeping your face feeling fresh. Your head and eyes are shielded from airborne debris by a lightweight hard-hat, fitted with a high-impact, hinged visor. Hearing protection is also provided by high quality, built-in ear muffs which conveniently position away from your ears when not in use. The power pack is carried comfortably on a waist belt. Filters 95 of dust under 1 micron. Airflow rate is 5.3 CFM. Respiratory protection conforms to NIOSH N95 standards. The Triton Powered Respirator is not suitable for use against gases, vapors, chemical fumes or in explosive atmospheres (e.g. spray painting). And for all of you who have older units, all the accessories are backwards compatible.Ideal for all woodworking jobs, including sawing, routing, shaping, sanding, and wood-turning, the Triton-powered respirator is very effective in filtering airborne dust. In addition to woodworking, the Triton powered respirator is perfect for chainsaw work, grinding, working with metal or stone, sanding body filler or plaster, and preparing weather boards for paint. For personal protection at home or the workplace, the respirator combines a lightweight hard hat, a full face, hinged visor and eye protection, integral high-quality earmuffs for hearing protection (which click out when not needed) and a lightweight adjustable shroud. The approved hard hat adjusts to suit common head sizes. A continuous wash of clean, filtered air is generated by a waist-mounted, rechargeable power pack. The Ni-Cad batteries provide up to four hours of continuous operation. Air flows down inside of the visor and across the face, eliminating any potential for fogging while keeping your face feeling fresh.
