Tools and Hardware Reviews of ULTRA LIFE, 10 year, smoke alarm battery, U9VL-X

Customer Review: 10 year batteries;
Summary: 5 Stars

The are great batteries and they do last 10 years in your smoke alarms and an excellant price.

Customer Review: 10 year claim is valid
Summary: 5 Stars

The title of this item is incorrect. It's actually U9VL, not UPVL. Apparently the 10 year claim is valid for the U9VL-J battery (that's the same battery Amazon is selling here). Here's a thorough study where they validated it:

Customer Review: 2 Years Tops
Summary: 2 Stars

I'll echo what others have said. This lasts longer than an alkaline battery, but you are unlikely to get 10 years from this battery. I used this battery in my smoke detector and I doubt it was in use for over 2 years.

Customer Review: 3 year 13 day battery life in my Firex dual sensor (ionization/photoelectric) smoke detector
Summary: 3 Stars

3 year 13 day battery life in my Firex dual sensor (ionization/photoelectric) smoke detector

If you read the fine print in their 10 year warranty; it is valid for an ionization detector only. But since I want protection against both fast burning and slow smothering fires,I want a dual sensor.

A 3 pack of Duracells are about the same price

Customer Review: Battery double-talk
Summary: 1 Stars

Lithium batteries excel with the lowest rate of internal leakage of any type of battery. This means that they will retain at least 80% of their charge during STORAGE for more than ten years. However, when used to OPERATE a device such as a smoke detector, a single lithium battery will slightly outlast two of the same size alkaline batteries. Claims for greater than 2X lithium versus alkaline battery endurance are based on non-typical use in extreme temperatures, and/or unrealistic comparison with obsolete zinc-carbon battery technology.

Nonetheless, certain expensive "10 yr" smoke detectors embody a special, NON-REPLACEABLE, large capacity lithium battery which has given seven years' service so far, in my experience.
