We have had this humidifier for over a year. We bought it when our son was born in an apartment that did not have any controls on the heat streaming through and it did a great job. I made sure it was cleaned regularly. But after a year the humidifier started going off and on every few minutes, which was extremely annoying. So i did some research and thought the problem was with the air washer. I replaced the air washer but the humidifier still keeps going on and off. It is winter again and I still cannot figure out what is wrong with the unit, and cannot be bothered with it and planning to replace it.

I have wasted $125.00, which I can not afford. I bought this humidifier at Ace Hardware Online, and bought an extra cartridge. After a month or so (beyond the Ace return period), it started coating everything--electronics, windows, carpet, computer--with a fine white dust. I was told by the company Customer Service department that I must have hard water. Not so. I have a water softener which works perfectly. I must have spent a total of several frustrating days calling Ace Online and the Venta companty, over a period of two months. Neither will return my money, so I appear to be stuck. By the way, calling the Venta company's department, "customer service" is a total misnomer. In addition to giving me misleading information--telling me to replace the cartridge after only one month, telling me I have hard water, denying the unit spews out white dust, and giving me a cleaning method which is entirely contrary to the so-called "owners manual," plus never, ever, returning even one phone call--I felt they were rude and uncaring. Please don't tell me maybe I didn't clean the unit properly--I did. I can't blame Ace Online for this, since it was beyond their return period, but I can't imagine a company not standing behind their products any better than this manufacturer does. Don't waste your money. Oh, yeah--it's noisy as heck, too.

Around this time last year I began my quest for a quiet, easy to maintain ultrasonic humidifier. I tried three Vicks humidifiers; one had a wick filter, one was ultrasonic, and the last was "filter-less". I returned each of the Vicks humidifiers after two nights of trying each one. The cheapest humidifier was about $40, the most expensive- $62. All of them were loud and disturbed my sleep, and my experience with moldy wick filters drove me to try anything.
I bought the Venta Sonic for about $69 after the 20% discount 2 Bed Bath and Beyond. After the first night with the Venta Sonic, a bought a second one for my kids room. It is quiet, effective, easy to maintain, and I have no dust. The water I use from the tap, under static conditions creates a pink ring around the toilet bowl, but the humidifer demineralizer handles the water with no dust issues. Quiet operation, No moldly filters, don't wait any longer! I've had these humidifers for a year, and they are a great investment in my family's health. From a mother with a child with athesma.
Customer Review: Excellent - except white dust is a problem Summary: 4 Stars
Despite the demineralization cartridge, this humidifier produces plenty of white dust which is everywhere, on the stereo, on the piano, on the tv (especially noticeable on black). Otherwise near perfect. But due to the white dust problem for me not a five star product.
Customer Review: Faulty Design and Poor Customer Service Summary: 1 Stars
We purchased this product locally at a big box retailer after being pleased with the VS207. The VS205 is being sold for the same price as the VS207 was last year and is a poor substitute. The unit will repeatedly turn off and on in rapid succession before finally emitting a mist for any extended length of time. We tried adjusting both dials as well as repositioning the direction of the mist to no avail. We gave the unit a few days and exchanged it thinking that it must be a defect in the unit. The very first time we turned the second unit on, the same exact thing happened. The noise made when it turns on and off isn't faint either and has woken us both up on multiple occassions. I also haven't noticed a difference in humidity when adjusting the knobs, so I don't necessarily trust their accuracy.
After the realizing this issue is not necessarily one unit's defect, but a design flaw, I tried contacting Venta's Customer Service. The only option was for me to return the unit to them and wait 2-3 weeks for a replacement of the same unit to be resent. I am saddened by the poor customer service backing these products as we have loved our first unit so much - what happens when it has a problem now? How long will we wait for it to be repaired?
I would not recommend the purchase of this product both because of the faulty design and poor customer service. I will be returning the second unit (VS205) for another manufacturer's product immediately.
