Customer Review: Finally, a digital humidifier that works!

After 5 unsuccessful attempts to try the Germ Guardian brand receiving 5 units from the manufacturer over the past year, we decided to give up on them altogether and try the Venta unit desiring a digital model with minimal maintenence. Success! Although it has been 2 weeks, it worked quietly and efficiently from the very start. It puts out a very strong mist without saturating my carpet and the humidistat appears to be able to monitor the humidity level in our bedroom and shut off and on accordingly to maintain the programmed percentage. I couldn't be more thrilled after so many problems with the other, more expensive brand. The fan is very quiet, and the only noise we hear is a slight gurgling (I try to visualize a babbling brook and it doesn't bother my sleep). I did have to keep it on all day at first to allow it to rise the humidity level of the room to a comfortable level (50%) in order to reap the benefits at night. And my husband refills it in our master bath with a standard tub; it fits under our spigot just fine (ulike another reviewer) and we'd expect the tank to be heavy as it holds enough water to maintain a comfortable humidity in our dry winter bedroom all night! I needed to get a humidifier because my wife and I have been getting sick with very bad sinus infections due to the dryness of our apartment.
Bought the unit @ BB&B and got the unit up and running in about 15 mins. most of the time was spent on filling the unit with water. I found it helpful to set the unit on a chair with a towel under it so it would not be awkward. After filling the unit and soaking the filter I placed it onto the base (with a little effort).
After turning the unit on it blinked for about 5 mins while the water started filling the base and offsetting the auto-off function and then started misting. So far i love my humidifier. The ONLY con so far is that the warm mist is cool, and not as warm as i would have liked it, but i heard that you need to leave the unit on warm for a while before it can heat the water properly.
Enjoy this unit, it is great!

We used this humidifier for a week. It is an excellent humidifier for cool mist. As with any cool mist humidifier, you will have to keep it at a high level or else you will see the mist fall to the floor. That might explain the humidity control issues generally seen with cool mist humidifiers.
For warm mist, this product simply fails to warm the mist. The consumer should be warned that the product does not work as advertised for warm mist.

This is a very good humidifier that produces lots of mist. The water capacity is such that it lasts well through the night (I only run mine at night for sleeping). I have a fairly large bedroom and this unit does a good job of covering the entire room. It has helped me sleep much better and I do not wake up nearly as "bronchy". I am very happy with this aspect of the humidifier.
On the down side, you must turn over the water tank to fill it. The tank does not fit under my bathroom spigot so I have to take it down to the kitchen to fill. It is rather heavy and cumbersome to carry it back upstairs and turn it over on the the base - be careful when doing this. Also, the lowest humidity reading is 30%, so you really do not get an accurate measure of humidity in the room if it is under 30% and the unit will shut off when it reaches the requested humidity setting. However, for me (in arid Denver) all I really care about is that the unit stays on all night. I just set mine for 50% requested humidity and this is not a problem.
Overall for me, a very good purchase.
Customer Review: Good, but with unexpected AC problem

Much has been said about this humidifier already. There is no need to repeat here. Bought 2 for about 1 month ago and ran into some unexpected issue with the AC system.
As other reviewers stated, this machine put out fine white dust due to the hard water. I don't mind the dust on my furniture, but just found out that the dust was so fine, it plugged up my AC filter. I have the expensive 3M filter that has ultra small holes. I changed my filter about the same time I bought the machine. One month later, the AC can't get enough intake air and shut-down. The filter look like new, except when you blow on it, some fine dust fall out. I have to switch to a cheaper filter (has larger holes). Hope this will work.
I'm still curious as if there is any health effect from inhaling such fine dust.
