Tools and Hardware Reviews of Venta VS207 Sonic Digital Cool and Warm Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier

Customer Review: Not as quiet as I expected.
Summary: 3 Stars

My main problem with the unit stems from the fact that I'm a light sleeper with excellent hearing and live in a quiet neighborhood. As a result I can hear the trickling sound produced by the transducer bouncing water droplets around in the chamber that produces the mist. If the trickling sound was constant I could have gotten used to it but it is irregular (little pops, crackles and spurts like the sound of a mouse snooping around in your bedroom after the lights go out). If you dont have good high frequency hearing this sound probably wont bother you.
The other sound I found annoying is the gurgle produced when an air bubble squeezes it way into the tank from the exit hole. This noise is loudest when the tank is near full and weakest when near empty. I found myself deliberately filling the tank only half full to avoid this noise. After using this unit for about 3 days I decided to return it and see if I could find a quiter unit. I did try a cheap ultrasonic model from Walmart and it had exactly the same non-constant trickling sound. It may be unavoidable in ultrasonic based products.

Customer Review: One of the best out there...but with two problems
Summary: 3 Stars

Over the past few years I've tried every high-end humidifier on the market, and in short...this one is the best of the worst. The fact is there simply are no humidifiers in production that don't have some of the typical humidifier problems...this one just has fewer of them.

White dust...the death knoll for sensitive electronic equipment, and while Venta says there should be "little" white dust, I have to disagree. I have three of these units and when they're running every piece of black plastic in my house is covered with white dust. Plasma and LCD TVs often have a small fan inside them for suck in outside air to cool components and then blow it back out a different opening. I know from expensive experience that white dust can ruin these items.

Forget the humidity percentage gauge on these units...they aren't even close to accurate. I recommend a good hydrometer if you need to know your accurate humidity levels.

On the good side, these are the easiest to maintain and clean of any humidifiers I've tried. They MUST be cleaned weekly when in use, but it's only a 5-minute job.

Customer Review: Overall a good product but could use little improvements
Summary: 4 Stars

I am glad I picked this model over the others available based on the reviews . Overall I am happy with the performance. The thing about the unit not starting up on the first fill (or after cleaning) is only because you need to give it time so that the water flows down into the lower compartments where the ultrasonic device is situated (this is also explained in the user manual if you care to read it).

Pros:
* Overall good design and built. Water container is built of heavy plastic and feels well constructed.
* Water filter cartridge is a plus and is easy to install and remove (don't forget to dip the new cartridge in warm water before using as explained in the manual)
* Electronic controls are easy and intuitive to use.

Cons:
* Humidity sensor could be improved. The unit's humidity displays jumps about a lot as if confused about the actual humidity levels. This could also be due to the fact that the mist tends to fall down towards the floor and is dense around the unit thus confusing the sensor. It could really use a remote sensor.
* Low hysteresis makes the device stop/start frequently around the set humidity (also a side affect of having sensor problems above)
* Filling water could be little tricky particularly for elderly or weak. It could use some holding scheme (like little recess for digging in fingers to hold the reservoir while filling) to make it easy to fill water. I always fill this unit using the bath tub tap as I can let it rest on the bath tub floor while it is filling up.

Customer Review: Poor Quality Construction
Summary: 1 Stars

When it worked, it humidified well.

However, it didn't work long. The control panel stopped working properly within a few weeks, and the unit was no longer operational. Returned this for a refund.

We bought a different Venta model, simpler without the computerized control panel, and that one failed after one season.

Stay away from Venta products. The construction quality is obviously very poor; nevertheless the company has the nerve to charge over $100 for their badly designed and shoddily constructed doorstops.

Customer Review: Product rushed to market- fatal flaws/ poor customer service
Summary: 1 Stars

In case you had not noticed, the actual hygrometer reading will never display below 30%. So the unit is programmed that anything below 30%= 30%. As a result of this if you set the unit to desired at 30%, it will never turn on. So the first workable setting is 35% and you will never obtain an accurate actual indication.

When I tried to report the issue to customer service, it took 30 tings, then I was on hold for 10 minutes. They promoised a tech would call me back, never happended.

I own the Venta L 84 air washer, the air washer units made in Germany are the highest quality units avaibable, bar none. However Venta tried to get into the ultrasonic market to compete with Air o Swiss, and they apparently jumped in with their test model still full of bugs....
