Tools and Hardware Reviews of Vornado EH1-0034-06 AVH2 Vortex Full-Room Electric Heater

Customer Review: Bad start, good product
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this product based on performance reviews. When I received it from Amazon, opened it and turned it on - nothing happened! It did not heat up nor did the fan go on. So I shut it off, put the handle of a small paintbrush through the front vents and turned the fan blades manually. Then when I turned it on it worked. I contacted Vornado about what happened and they said to send it back to them and they would check it out. They e-mailed me a pre-paid UPS shipping lable. I got the same fan back from them in a couple of weeks (same serial number) and it works fine so I don't know if the fan blades were just stuck or if they did something to fix the fan. But it is a very good heater - it does a great job of heating a small room such as a bathroom quickly and quietly. The controls are easy to use and it keeps the temperature very constant.

Customer Review: Best Little Heater
Summary: 4 Stars

These vornado heaters are the best! They do an excellent job of heating up a room, circulating the air so the floor is not cooler and they are quiet to boot! :)

Customer Review: Best of the bunch for a safe, efficient, quiet space heater
Summary: 4 Stars

I did a ton of research and bought a few heaters before this one but I'm most happy with the Vornado. The first two I bought were digital ceramic heaters. I have to recommend against getting a digital heater. Each time you turn it on, you have to push several controls to get back to where you like it, with this heater, you just turn it on. The only thing that kept me from buying it first was cost and the fact that it had no ceramic element which theoretically was a safer element than an electric coil. We use it in a few bedrooms that are not freezing cold but uncomfortably cold. The other great feature is it'll run on lower power and only use as much wattage as is needed to heat the room. My other heaters would run full blast till it hit the desired temperature, then turn off, repeat over and over. The trouble is, heaters will use about as much power as must rooms have available so if you have anything else plugged in, you'll throw the circuit breaker, which happened over and over for me. A 1200w heater (which is common) will use over 10Amps. That's a TON of power. The Vornado will run and heat just fine on a low power setting using about 5A max and less if less is needed.

Here's a summary of what I like:

Pros:
Plastic grill never gets hot to the touch - why do others use metal ?
Only uses the power it needs to - gives your electric panel a rest
Much easier to use than digital heaters - don't buy digital !
Compact and stable on the floor
Well built - many heaters are absolute junk

Cons:
Expensive for a space heater
No ceramic element which MAY mean it could spark easier
When running on high, I noticed a buzzing noise in the fan but not during normal use

Customer Review: Best room Heater
Summary: 5 Stars

I should preface this with the fact I have never written a review in my life. OK, I live in Wyoming. I bought an old house and somone had turned the garage into a family room. Great idea if they had insulated it.Last winter I bought an Iheater for $240.00. It did nothing to heat this room.I froze the entire winter. This Vornado is a godsend. It is 15 degrees outside and I am toasty warm in my garage turned family room. $100.00, SO WHAT! Buy this if you want to keep warm. Also, i bought this through Sylvane. it was delivered in a week. No problems what so ever.

Customer Review: Better fan and circulation than older model
Summary: 5 Stars

I have an older Vornado ( model EH1-0015 INTELLITEMP) which has to be at least 10 years old. After dragging it out of storage, I noticed than inside the fan, all the workings inside had become caked with dust and grime. Though the unit still worked fine, I decided to retire it for safety reasons.

I wanted to stick with the Vornado brand and did some research here on Amazon and finally decided on the AVH2 model. Actually it is very similar to my old unit in that on top, there is a manual setting on the dial of the temperature you wish to keep the room at 65-90 (see my customer pic)a High-Low Heat, and High-Auto Fan. So it appears that this , the AVH2 is just a second or third generation of my older unit.

I noticed that this model has a more powerful fan than my older unit and the heating element, thought does not glow red, puts out more heat too.

It's now the end of May and have not used this heater other to test the functions (I purchased this on an online auction site) I will offer any updates when colder weather comes but of what I have just noticed on a general inspection, this heater is much improved over it's older sipling.
