Customer Review: A few minor problems
Summary: 4 Stars
All in all, I was very pleased with this desk. There are a few things though that detract from its overall "score".
1. While the instructions are easy enough to follow, make sure you read through them all before starting. This is a good idea any time you're assembling something, but here it is very necessary because while a step may tell you to do something, such as bolt two pieces together using a third piece, it makes no mention of having the correct orientation of certain holes that will be used in later steps. For example, the holes used for the suction cup cushions that support the glass top. These obviously need to be facing upwards, but no mention of this is made in the early steps. It's irritating to have to go back in and rotate something.
2. If you are a woman who often wears nylon stockings, or will be when you use this desk, be aware that the keyboard tray is also held up by these suction cup cushions, and they have points on the underside. I wear sweats or jeans, but since these points are sharp enough to catch the cloth on those, I can imagine they would immediately put a huge hole in the knee of your hosiery if your legs are crossed or are tall enough to have your chair set high. I'm contemplating going in with a pair of snips and clipping the points flat or smoothing them with a metal file.
3. The part identification stickers are stuck on there like iron. For a wooden desk this wouldn't bother me, but since this is glass every one of them is visible, and look tacky if left on. Removal of any glue residue requires chemicals. Not something I like spending time on to have an attractive desk.
Otherwise it's nice and sturdy. I have a large monitor, speakers, external drive, and a Keurig coffee machine on my desk and I have never once worried about it holding up the weight of these items. I would recommend a coaster for coffee cups or a protective mat under a laptop that is moved frequently, to protect the glass from scratches.
