I purchased the Waste King L-8000 as part of a kitchen remodel. It replaced a 12 year old 1/2hp Kenmore. I chose it because of Consumer Reports and because of a very good price on Amazon. The machine itself is great, extremely quiet with a ton of power. The only drawback related to my particular situation in doing my remodel because this unit required the plumber to cut the back out of cabinets and cut pipes in the wall to accommodate the height difference for this machine. Just bought a house. Inspection went fine. Guess what broke the day we moved?? So, I verified the price everywhere... I got 4 times the power of a disposal for 1/4 the price!
This is an awesome garbage disposal. I had this professionally installed (or so I thought :)) The disposal worked fine, so the plumber left. Next day our dish washer doesn't work. The plumber had not knocked out the 'knock out' valve. It was simple. After I knocked it out, everything has been perfect.
Highly recommended!

I had read wonderful reviews and ordered the Waste King to replace our leaking Badger 5. There were two problems. My Badger was connected electrically directly to the electrical line. No plug. The Waste King came with a corded plug and required a regular outlet. I don't know if you can order it that way, but check before you order online. There was no way to use the one I ordered without cutting the cord and voiding the warranty. The other problem was that the Waste King arrived with some serious cracks around the base. Looked like it had not been packaged well. In fact, the Waste King box arrived loose in a bigger box with no packaging. The GOOD news is that return and refund procedure was very easy and I was not charged for the return postage. Wish it had worked out better.Customer Review: As advertised but a little caution

I got the Waste King L-8000 from Waste King Direct and it came in a timely manner and was as advertised. I had a plumber install it. The plumber used silicon rather than plumbers paste to avoid having the paste dry up over time. The unit was too wide to fit properly with my pipes under the sink. The plumber's solution was to remove the lower plastic housing producing a much narrower product. He repositioned the insulation and wrapped it with ties. It then fit fine. With the complication the plumber took about one-half hour to install. Even with the lower housing removed we find the noise level to be fine. If you have patience you can find Amazon selling this directly with free shipping; as I write this it is selling for $108 from Amazon. I paid $134 to Waste King Direct because Amazon was not selling it directly at the time.
