I received the Waste King L-8000 disposal for a Christmas present this year. I had asked for it for two years in a row and my father-in-law finally took me seriously and bought it for me. It is probably my favorite gift I received. I live in a fairly new "spec" home that has a lot of "builder grade" materials. This included the wimpy, loud, next to worthless 1/3 hp badger disposal that came with the house.
I do the dishes for the house and would constantly have to make sure nothing even remotely solid was put in the sink and was constantly fishing stuff out of the disposer that it just couldn't handle. I received this disposer and it is a night and day difference.
First, the install. The hardest part was getting the old disposer out. I estimated 20 minutes for the total job (taking the old one out and putting the new one in) but it ended up taking 30 minutes because the old disposal was a little harder to get out than I expected. It was a 3-bolt mount kind and I basically had to unplug it, disconnect it from the dishwasher and drain, loosen the locking ring around the neck under the sink (the hardest part, as a tip, if yours has tubular "ears" to push to get it loose, stick a screwdriver in one and hammer it. It is the easiest way to get it loose). I then just had to undo the 3 bolts and it came out quickly from there. The Waste King was a dream to install. No plumbers putty needed, just review the assembly order, twist a few parts together and plug it in. I did have to cut the drain pipe that came with the waste king a little with a hacksaw, but that was pretty easy and expected. Also, be sure to knock out the dishwasher drain plug if you are hooking it up to a dishwasher. My favorite part of the instructions was that you could just leave the plug in the disposer and it would take care of it plug if you wanted.
Now, on to usage. This thing is great. It has chewed up everything I have thrown at it. If I let a stream of water run before turning it on, it is much quieter than my previous disposer. One of the best bonus features is that the black, rubber splash guard is easily removable. Just pull it out, clean it, and put it back in. On our old disposer, we couldn't pull it out and it would constantly get gunk on its underside and was a pain to clean.
To sum up, do yourself a favor and get this disposer and buy a second for a friend.

I purchased the Waste King L-8000 to replace the Insinkerator Badger-5 that sprouted a leak right at the bottom where the power cord is connected.
Anyways, the product was very easy to install. I didn't need the suggested extra parts. The product is plug and play and it is much quieter than our previous, less powered disposer. The only thing you need to worry about is the amount of room it will take up. It was slightly taller than our previous unit.
Overall, a great product.

It is absolutely fantastic! I have owned it for about a month now, it is QUIET, it works SO FAST, and it doesn't matter what you put in it, IT EATS IT UP! My husband and I have joked about the things we could grind up in it! QUIET QUIET QUIET, we have an infant, so this is a GREAT feature! I was hesitant not buying the "well-known" "name-brand", but we felt better with the awesome warranty, and now that we have it, I would NEVER own another kind! We checked out Consumer Reports before buying a garbage disposal. Ours had not yet "died" but occasionally our drain would become clogged after just disposing of something simple - like egg shells! The holidays were approaching and I didn't want to deal with clogged kitchen drains with 30 to 40 people arriving for dinner. So we bought and installed the Waste King L-8000. Naturally, removing the old Insinkerator (which had been in the house for approximately 21 years) was the most difficult. The Waste King installed perfectly, and even though it is not as quiet as advertised, it chews up everything! We are being a little conservative still with what we feed it, but no clogged drains!!Customer Review: Best that I have seen or used

I run things in my house,dishwasher,wash machine,vacuum,etc. When my wife said our old garbage disposal was not doing the job , (I wanted to ask her how she knew) but I thought better of it.
I did a lot of research ,(Consumers report, epiions, etc.) because I'm on a fixed income and want to get the most bang for my buck. The Waste King L-8000 Legend Series 1 HP was by far number one in my book. Ordered it online, received it in seven days,installed it in about an hour,not my first installation of a garbage disposal. Happy to say my wife and I are totally satisfied with the product. The much higher spending RPM ,and the full one horsepower ,really gets the job done.
Waste King also has a great guarantee.
