I think a batch feed is a must if you have kids. This model operates very quiet, and has great power. The cons: It takes some time to place the activator in the correct position to turn the unit on. They need to improve on this. You don't want it to be so easy that a kid could activate it by pushing on a switch in the disposal, yet it shouldn't be so difficult that it takes more than 30 seconds.
I have never used any other manufacturer's batch models, this one may be superior to others in terms of activation.
I don't know how a buyer could test the on/off of various batch models, certainly not buying online.
On thing for sure, if you want the safest garbage disposal on the market with superior features this is it. Even an adult can take a minute or more, depending on previous experience to turn it on.
