Tools and Hardware Reviews of Westinghouse 7861500 Contempra Trio Three-Light 42-Inch Five-Blade Ceiling Fan, Brushed Nickel with Frosted Glass Shades

Customer Review: Ceiling Fan
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this ceiling fan. It was exactly what I wanted and I would for sure refer to friend. Great Product!!

Customer Review: Decent fan for the $
Summary: 5 Stars

We have two fans like this in the living room and had to replace one. This newer one seems to be quieter than the older model. One difference is that the newer model takes the candlebra bulbs and the older model takes the standard bulb. So ours don't match in that regard, but oh well!

Customer Review: Exceeded expectation
Summary: 4 Stars

After reading the reviews I expected to have problems with the fan - not so! A friend with expertise in electronics put up the fan without a problem (we did have to get wall screws-832-instead of wood screws that came with the fan) other than that is was a breeze - pun intended!

Customer Review: Excellent Buy
Summary: 5 Stars

This ceiling fan is an excellent buy for the money. I was pleasantly suprised at how it looked after I installed it in my Living Room. I have read the other reviews about the fan making noise, so I was a bit skeptical about buying it, but I bought it anyways. Boy I am glad I did! This is a really good looking ceiling fan. Gives the room a classy, but not too flashy look. Every person who has come to the house after I installed this has complimented on it. As far as noise, I experienced none. Just make sure when you put the blades together with the arms, make certain that the screws are good and tight. I used a cordless DeWalt drill with the torque setting set low to #12 to assure a good tight fit. I actually was so impressed with the looks and operation of this fan that I immeadiately went back to amazon.com and bought another fan exactly like this one, for my kitchen. Same review - absolutely no problems, none whatsoever. Shipping was very fast with the free super saver shipping, I got it in about 3 days after ordering. Wal-Mart offers this same exact fan, but it is priced about $20 higher.
ONE THING I WILL STRESS: Absolutely DO NOT and I mean, DO NOT waste your time buying the cheap candelabra candle tip bulbs - It seems to me that it burns through a lot of them. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot (or even here at Amazon.com) and buy the CFL (Compact Flourescent Light Bulbs) Candelabra base bulbs. I've had the CFL bulbs in there for almost two months in the living room fan and they are yet to burn out. But I have the regular ones in the kitchen and have had all three burn out once already. So, pay the extra money and get the CFL bulbs. They will last longer and you'll save money in the long run.... 13 Watt CFL = 60 Watt Incandescent. Also keep in mind that CFL bulbs can be purchased in different color temperatures to give you the light effect you want. So pay attention to that. Hope this review helped you out.

Customer Review: Excellent, small sized fan for a great price
Summary: 5 Stars

I read several of these customer reviews on Amazon prior to purchasing this fan. I actually got 2 of them. At the price of $49.95 with free shipping, these Westinghouse fans are as good a deal as any 42 in fan you can buy at any local store. I haven't seen any at HD or lowes for this cheap unless they are on sale (which is rare). I do all of my own home improvements, and these 2 ceiling fans are about my 9th and 10th installs in my life I have done, and I must say these were by far the easiest to install. The motor is small and lightweight. I was easily able to install them myself due to this and the bracket they have for it. Once you install the top piece of the bracket to the fan box in the ceiling, the motor has the other piece of the bracket attached to it. On one side of the bracket on the motor it has a T type of connection, that fits up and into the top piece of the bracket, and holds the motor piece in place at an angle with the weight on the bracket. This made it very easy to wire and mount up once that was done. For a 42" fan, it puts out plenty of air that I can feel across the room in a 16 x 14 room. On high, it has a slight hum, but not near as bad as old ones that I replaced. It is actually a calm sounding hum, and the actual spin of the blades sound isn't very noticeable. I agree with one person's review that if you don't understand wiring and don't respect electricity then you should get assistance, but I don't understand how people were complaining about the noise they made. They are relatively quiet fans with smooth running motors. The motors seem strong enough that I bet they would even spin nicely if the blades length was increased to 48" or so. I say they are a great buy and an excellent fan for a small to medium sized room. All installations obviously aren't going to be the same. If you have to mess with the box that the fan attaches to, that will most likely involve work in the attic. This fan is lightweight enough that it won't be too much of a burden. Buy it.
