Tools and Hardware Reviews of Westinghouse Lighting 03490 Nanolux 1-Watt S11 LED Bulb, WhiteCustomer Review: Cool Bulb! Very low amount of light but extremely energy efficient! Summary: 3 Stars
This light is advertised as a 1 watt LED bulb. I bought two of these a while back ($12.50 each) to help reduce our electric usage. I run most of our house on solar so every watt helps.
I already have a ton of energy efficient bulbs, all of which were Compact Fluorescents. The closest bulb I can compare to this 1watt LED is my 7watt CF bulb. What surprised me is that it was clear that 7 of these LED bulbs wouldn't output as much light as my single 7watt CF bulb. This surprised me considering LED's are supposed to be more energy efficient.
So what I did next is measured 2 of these bulbs over two days using my kill-o-watt meter. My killowatt meter shows 0watts being consumed even when measuring both of the bulbs combined, so clearly they are using less than .5 watts each. After measuring total watt hours consumed over two days and running the numbers, I found they were each consuming around 0.3 watts of electricity. This means I can run almost 25 of these and still use the same electricity as my single 7watt CF bulb. 25 of these would definitely have more light than the single 7watt CF bulb, but that would also be very costly... $300! These are best for specific places, anywhere a dim light is useful.
I like the bulb because it's so tiny and consumes almost an unmeasurable amount of electricity. It also doesn't require mercury like CF bulbs do. The light output is low, but about what I expected since I read the other reviews. I'll be buying the "3 watt" version sometime in the future and will post how many watts the 3watt version really consumes and how it compares to this "1 watt" bulb.
NOTE: The reason why I gave this only a 3 is because this isn't really a 1 watt LED bulb, it's a 0.3 watt LED bulb advertised as a 1 watt bulb. It's also somewhat on the blue side. If the price drops a lot, I might get more of these.
Customer Review: Description is deficient Summary: 4 Stars
This bulb works fine with two others as night lights in a passage next to the kitchen. Kitchen lighting is good when I need more light.
I didn't give this five stars because the description doesn't warn buyers that it will interfere with radios, televisions, remote controls, telephones etc. I first put one in a small lamp in my guest room to use as a night light. There was a little radio-controlled [so-called atomic] clock on the same night table. The bulb made the clock go nuts. Once I moved the bulb to its present location, the clock behaved normally and set itself to the right time. The warning about interference is in small print on the little box the bulbs come in. The shipper was very friendly when I had a problem (The first set they sent was yellow - mispackaged in boxes labeled white by Westinghouse. They immediately sent me a white set. That set actually arrived earlier than the promised time for the original set.) I suspect they would give a refund without restocking fee if the buyer found the interference to be a problem.
Customer Review: Dim but Functional Summary: 3 Stars
It provides a dim but functional night light glow inside the refrigerator (if you have good vision). The low energy consumption and durability certainly makes this bulb useful, but the opaque white bulb color may be reducing the strength of the glow. A transparent LED bulb should be designed. Don't expect to use a dozen of these to even equal the strength of one regular light bulb.
Customer Review: Good little bulb Summary: 5 Stars
I like this light bulb for early morning and night time work on my computer, when there is not enough natural light to make my keyboard/desk visible. Yes, the light has a hint of blue, but it is easy on the waking/tired eye, and that is what I like about it. You are not going to light up a room with this little bulb, but for soft, localized light, it's great.
Customer Review: It is just not as good as an icandescent or even a CFL. Summary: 2 Stars
The item specs are good on paper, unfortunately it just is not a good product overall. It is weaker in lumen production compared to even a 7 watt incandescent. the fact that it produced a ice blue hue doesn't help matters. Not recommended as anything other than accent lighting (keep in mind that the light is very very cool in temperature). It would have been great if the company selling this stated the lumen production and light temperature of the bulb in the listing.
