Tools and Hardware Reviews of Whirlpool Duet Sport : WFW8300SW 27 Front-Load Washer - whiteCustomer Review: Can't wait to get rid of this washing machine Summary: 2 Stars
We purchased the Duet Sport set on December 15, 2008. We have been unhappy with it ever since. I imagine that it gets clothes clean and does other things well but it failed to meet our minimum requirements and failed to perform adequately. #1: It is loud. From my research, it was supposed to be one of the quietest but you really don't know what it's going to be like until you get it in your home. Plus, getting a front loader for the first time, we didn't know what to expect. What we got was a machine that at various times in its cycles will interfere with normal conversation or viewing (we have a first level laundry room). If it were just washing machine noises (whatever that means) maybe we could live with that. But it squeaks, rattles and humms unacceptably. #2: It is violent. It shakes in a frightening manner. Now, we did level it, put pads under it, and had a service tech do the same and tried a variety of loads and spins. So far, no real improvement. This leads to... #3: It walks or slides. After the service tech was here and did some leveling and ran a test, it seemed fine. We later found out that running a full load through a complete cycle brought about a sliding problem. Here's a cautionary note: The Tech mentioned that smooth floors, such as wood laminates (ours) can help the machine slide. Who doesn't have smooth floors? With #'s 2 and 3, I'm worried about the hoses loosening up.
* As I'm writing this, the machine is going through a spin cycle, getting ready for takeoff!
All three of these points create a machine that is taking up too much of our time. We can't trust it to just wash clothes meaning we have to be aware of it and watch it. I hate to admit it, but this was a mistake.
BTW, I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because I'm giving it more time for us to adjust to it. If these problems still exist a month from now, and I have no reason to believe they won't, this machine gets 0 stars.
Update: After a month of ownership and two service tech visits, we pressured our dealer into taking this machine back (at a hefty 30% re-stocking fee). We then took our store credit and purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio. At present, we are very, VERY happy with the purchase. All of the old complaints have vanished with this machine. It does use more water, and we have to see about its durability over the long haul, but right now it's worked out great. With only a slight exaggeration, you could put a house of cards on the machine at the start of a cycle, and it might just still be standing at the end... and it's quiet. Plus, we took the pedestal off the old washer and put it on the dryer raising it to a point that it's very easy to empty. We ended up spending a bit more than anticipated but worth every penny.
Customer Review: Complete Lemon! Summary: 1 Stars
Do NOT buy this machine! I bought the Duet washer and dryer in March of 2009 and the washer never worked properly. It would lock the clothes in, not spin properly, not rinse properly, was loud, etc., etc., etc. I've had three service calls--good thing I had a master protection plan. The first call was because it wasn't rinsing, smelled like burning rubber while spinning, and kept locking. That service guy tried to tell me it was the Tide HE detergent and that it suds up too much. Then he "cleaned" the pump by pulling out a single thread he found in there and said that was the problem. A few weeks later, after things got much worse, another guy came and ended up replacing the pump. It still didn't work properly, even though I'm the only person using the machine for light to medium loads. When it began making a louder creaking noise and stopped spinning for lighter loads, I called again and the repair person said it needed a whole new basket and whatever holds that in place--basically the whole interior. Turns out, it had always been bad. I decided to replace the machine, since it's under warranty, and they didn't even put up a fight. I got mine at Sears and they don't carry this machine anymore. (Wonder why.) I'll be happy to get that machine out of my hair!

Customer Review: Disappointing... Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this washer and noticed, a few months after owning it, that my 'cold' washes were actually WARM. I added a garment to a load that had already started and was shocked to feel warm water. I thought I had been washing in cold for months! I called customer service and they told me that yes, there really is no true cold wash. The washer heats the water up to what they consider an optimal temp and yes, it's warm. I asked why you were able to choose 'cold' then and she said there really was no reason and it was unfortunate and misleading. If I had known this, I would not have purchased this washer. The cs person I talked to told me they get calls daily with people complaining about it. What a shame. Now I'm stuck with this washer and I can't even do the type of washing that I'd like! Never again! If you want to be to use COLD water for washing, do not purchase this washer!
Customer Review: Does not get the soap out Summary: 1 Stars
I hate whoever came up with the idea of high efficiency. Try this test on ANY FRONT LOADER. After the normal cycle reset it for an extra rinse cycle. After it fills pause it and open the door and add as much water as you can (up to almost overflowing). Turn it back on for about a minute or less then pause and open the door again. You will see lots of suds. I have this washer and it is a nightmare. I use half the of the lowest line on the cap of the HE soap and I have to hand fill this washer and rinse up to 6 times to even begin to get the soap out. THERE IS NO WAY CLOTHES CAN GET CLEAN IN A FEW CUPS OF WATER LET ALONE RINSE!! And the darned top loaders are now also "high efficiency" and use little water so I am sure they are no better.
