Tools and Hardware Reviews of Whirlpool Duet Sport : WFW8300SW 27 Front-Load Washer - whiteCustomer Review: Does the job just fine! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this set! I've had mine for 3 years now. Washing time may be longer but I can really do much more laundry in 1 load so in all reality, I'm doing 2 loads at one time. The spin cycle really gets A LOT of the moisture out so that drying time is significantly less (have the dryer that has a "moisture" sensing feature, so it cuts down on drying time if the items in the dryer are dry before the timed cycle, then it shuts off instead of continuing to run). When I first bought it, I was concerned about it not getting my clothes clean enough. This washer exceeded my expectations and gets everything superclean. I use less water, less detergent (definitely get HE, I made the beginner's mistake of using regular Tide...waaay too sudsy, had to do a second rinse!), and savings on both water bill and electric bill. My unit is very quiet, I kept checking on it when I first got it because I thought it stopped. My only complaint is that I didn't get the version with a soak feature, which I like to use with whites. I've found that I really don't need to soak as long as I use the Whitest Whites cycle with a little bleach or Mule Team.
As far as the complaints of mold....that's because those people didn't read their instruction manual which specifically states to leave the door open so that the inside can dry out to PREVENT the moldy smell since the drum is absolutely sealed with the door closed. The manual also states that you should run a Clean Washer cycle once a month which keeps it clean and mold/germ free. The manuals aren't just fluff...they're actually there for a reason, people!
I wish I could have gotten the bigger set but my laundry room is small and this fit perfectly into the space. I also recommend getting the pedestals. At $100 a piece you may think to skip them but you really should get them. Saves the back plus you get nice little compartments to keep the detergent and other things handy.
Customer Review: Finally rid of this piece of junk Summary: 1 Stars
Purchased this washer along with the matching dryer in February of 2007. The washer broke for the first time 28 days later. After being "repaired" the same problem arose one week later. Numerous phone calls to Whirlpool resulted in the same canned response: "We are sorry for your inconvenience but there is nothing we can do". Luckily we purchased the extended service plan and after three miserable years with this loud, unreliable, mildew-prone piece of machinery it has failed us for the last time. The rear bearing and dispenser motor went out at the same time. A repairman said the rear bearing failure is a common occurance. Surprisingly, the cost to repair the machine is more than we originally paid for it. We are being reimbursed for the replacement cost. If you are going to take your chance and purchase anything from Whirlpool, make sure you purchase the extendend service plan as you will need it at some point. My friends have had a laugh at my expense for several years listening to my tales of dealing with an uncaring company like Whirlpool, thankfully those days are over as I will never purchase another of their awful products.
Customer Review: Front-load, yes, but not this model. Summary: 3 Stars
Replaced an 8 year old Maytag Neptune front-load with this machine 9 months ago. The Maytag was great until the bearing went out with a repair cost of $800.00! Bought the Whirlpool Sport with the assurance from the sales person that it is as good if not better than the Maytag. After all, Whirlpool now owns Maytag, I was informed. So, I dropped the $700 dollars and had this installed. I would definitely buy a front-load washer again, but probably not this model.
Pros: 1) It washes clothes. 2) It uses less water than a top-load washer. 3) The "whitest whites" and "sanitary" cycles super-heat the water resulting in brighter whites and fresher towels. 4) The extra rinse cycle. 5) High speed spin-dry extraction leaves clothes fairly dry.
Cons: 1) Failure to fully spin-dry large loads (e.g.. one king size mattress cover) leaving the clothes literally dripping water. 2) Frequent error messages (e.g. monthly) resulting in cycle interruption. 3) Small capacity of drum. 4) Cost relative to front loaders. 5) Low profile without the optional stand. 6) No light in the drum (Maytag had this and it is sorely missed)
Customer Review: Good Washing Machine Summary: 5 Stars
I had to replace a Maytag mini front loader that broke within a few weeks of purchase and Sears let me upgrade to this larger Whirlpool. I've had it about 3 years now and have never had to make a service call. I did purchase the Extended Sears Service contract which includes an annual inspection which I use. Maybe that's why I haven't had these problems. The Sears tech told me to leave the door open to allow it to dry. I've never had mold problems. I always use HE detergent. Mine is on concrete and it never moved. The only time I usually hear it is during the spin cycle. As for performance I'm very happy. I use the Whitest Whites program and my whites come out great.I had a comforter that had cranberry juice, wine and blood stains on it and all of the stains came out. That could be because I use Tide but it didn't always remove ALL stains in my top loader. I'm surprised at all the negative reviews but it hasn't been my experience. The salesman told me that new machines with digital components should be kept on maintenance agreements due to the expense of repairs. It's very Murphy's Law that I bought a 5 year maintenance agreement and never had a problem but I've been satisfied with this machine.

Customer Review: Great, but... Summary: 4 Stars
I've had the washer for over a year now and quite pleased with it. We like everything with it except for a small flaw that we are not able to understand how to fix. On "Quick Wash" setting (18 minutes), the water comes out of the front door during wash cycle. This has been forcing us to use full cycle even when not needed.
