Customer Review: HATE it
Summary: 1 Stars

I really regret this purchase. I got suckered in with the low water usage, but I didn't even see a difference on my utility bill. The door leaks and it is extremely loud, which I think are specific to this model, but a note on front loaders in general (if I knew, I would never have bought one): 1. The 'regular' cycle is over an hour long!!! Our family of four generates way too much laundry for wash cycles this long. 2. You have to leave the door open all the time, or else it gets smelly. This is even in Arizona, our humidity is usually less than 5%. So, if you don't have a huge laundry room, or like mine, yours is a cramped through-way to the garage, he're 18 inches less space that you will have while you let the inside dry out! Ugh- I usually do better, especially with big ticket items, but I messed this one up!

Customer Review: How badly do you want to spend time at a laundromat?

I purchased the Whirlpool Duet series washer and dryer about 2 years ago. I also purchased the extended warranty from Lowe's to cover additional repairs once the manufacturer's warranty expired.

The first year, the washed began turning off mid-wash. According to the repair man, the main circuit board went out. It was down for 2 weeks awaiting repair. No cost to me.

The beginning of the second year, the washer began leaking during loads. The main seal went out. The Lowe's repair man stated it was due to misuse because I did not turn all my pants/shirts inside out when I washed them. Although, I do button and zip up my pants before washing, admittedly, I had but never turned them inside out. I didn't realize that I was supposed to do this... It was down for three weeks awaiting the part from Indonesia. The cost was over $400.00.

Still within the second year, the washer is now turning off again mid-cycle. The repair man states that the main circuit board (or computer board) has gone out again. I have no idea how much this time it will cost me, and I am still awaiting for the repair to get completed.

Previously, I owned a cheap Roper top-load set. I owned it six years. I replaced the working Roper set because I thought I would save money and the environment with a energy efficient front load set. What a joke... I am definitely NOT saving any money...

Stay away from this set and Lowe's extended warranty!!! Both are a waste of money!

Customer Review: Junk within 30 days
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this and worked fine, nothing special. About the 15th time I used it, it locked the door and quit. Dead. Nothing. Nada. No instructions to manually override the door lock. None of their helpful hints for trouble were helpful or solved anything. "Authorized warranty service" is unavaialble on weekends and the appliance repair places who work on weekends told me they wouldn't ouch one of these with a ten foot pole because they break down like this all the time and they order new circuit boards that fail again, and then they get blamed for it. So apparently well known as junk by the guys who have to fix them. On top of all this, the "authorized warranty" people aren't even available to LOOK at it until late next week, and then they'll have to order parts and I presume it will be out of commission for another ten days after that. This after paying $600 for it. It cost me about $40 a load to do my laundry.

Avoid this junk like the plague.

Customer Review: LEMON - Avoid the Whirlpool Duet Sport!
Summary: 1 Stars

I took delivery of this washer on 9/1/07, in late November it stopped working. The motor refused to spin the basket at high speed and the wash cycle wouldn't complete. Despite the fact that the machine was clearly not performing normally, it did not display an error code.

A&E Factory Service has made three service calls so far with no resolution. While the service tech is courteous and seemingly competent, the rest of the organization is staffed by clowns. We have received incorrect replacement parts, duplicate shipments and a total runaround from the Whirlpool Customer Experience team. Right now, my Whirlpool Experience has been pretty bad.

While Whirlpool has honored their warranty to the letter, they have completely ignored its spirit and left me without a working washer for 6 weeks. They refuse to replace this lemon until the tech declares it unrepairable, which he won't do until he can no longer install new parts. In theory, this could be until the end of the warranty period. Good times!

The eco-friendly benefits of this washer were a draw, but its utter lack of dependability makes a strong case for a traditional (low-tech) top-loader.

Read other reviews before making your decision. You might also want to look into the Whirlpool Calypso settlement. Whirlpool has a history of pushing shoddy products.

Customer Review: Like MILDEW and spending $1,000 at the same time, then this is the washer for you!

have had a Duet clothes washer unit for 4 years now (well before issues surfaced/where on the web, and with the price of this darn thing, who would have ever expected any issues to begin with.) The Duet was washing my delicates (expensive lingerie) in HOT (yes you read me right...can you say steam) H20 v. cold when just over a year old. The repairman came out and replaced the part that handles water temp. Now I've had the joy of experiencing mildew and funky smelling clothes. Likewise, as other posters mention, bleach doesnt work/get to the clothing intended. Went online, read about the issues, and much to my shagrin, I found my son's months old sock in the area between the bin and the door gasket (obviously the impetus and breeding ground for the mold all over my gasket.) Since not rinsing well, I have placed yet ANOTHER call into my repairman to see if perhaps another sock may be still be elsewhere in the unit blocking H20 flow for rinsing. Ultimatley, I wish I had bought an LG or a Maytag. I will NEVER buy Whirlpool products again. Our 4 y/o Gold series dishwasher has been serviced 5 times since it was bought new with our house! The tech told me that Whirlpool KNEW the heating element was defective in our dishwasher and sold the units anyway (with the hopes that the part would last out the warranty period.) Additionally, our 4 y/o range has spillage down between the glass panels on the door which would indicate that it was not sealed properly. POOR quality control, POOR design. Lastly, dont waste your money on the optional base storage like I did, Whirlpool didnt bother to measure standard sized laundry product containers when designing this piece and thus, the unit is TOO SHORT to allow such containers to stand vertically/erect (which means you must lay things on their sides, risk spillage/fight to get things out.
