I was introduced to Affresh by an appliance serviceman that came to my home. Especially important for side loaders, using these tablets once a month and you will be shocked how clean your washer stays. Side loaders can accumulate dirt and sludge. We use this every month or so in our HE top loader. As long as we're certain to only use HE detergent, never use fabric softener, and always leave the top of the washing machine open between uses, these tablets are all we need. We do use all three tablets at once.
If we don't use affresh, our clothes start smelling, no matter how much bleach or hot water we use. Haven't tried "smelly washer".

We have had our Kenmore front loader machine for 2 years now and have used these tablets from the beginning. I use one tablet a month according to the directions-empty washing machine, hottest water cycle, etc. I also wipe the front gasket (especially between the "folds") after each wash that I do,leave the door slightly ajar and only use a detergent that is recommended for HE machines. I use a liquid fabric softener as well as a liquid color-safe bleach. The water supply in our area has a definite unpleasant smell to it BUT our clothes always smell fresh and clean as does our washing machine.The small amount of time/effort/cost of tablets to clean/maintain the machine is well worth it. A sample of Affresh was in my new washer. The instructions recommend cleaning the washer once a month - so I do. This product is very handy, just pop on in the machine and let them machine work. It completely dissolves and leaves the machine sparkling clean.Customer Review: Good short term fix

I found this product did a great job of taking care of the mildew smell in the washer and also on the clothes. The only problem is, and it's not a problem with this product, it's a short term fix for a long term problem. If you use this product often it will keep the black gunk out of the washer and also keep the smell off the clothes.
