Tools and Hardware Reviews of Whirlpool W10194073 Affresh High Efficiency Washer Cleaner with Grit Grabber Cloth

Customer Review: Affresh Does Not totally do the Job.
Summary: 2 Stars

Our LG top loader in a short period of time left a moldy smell on recently washed items. We thought that Affreesh would eliminate the problem.
It did only for a short time even though their directions advise that you only have to use monthly. It only worked for us for short periods and not any way near the usage they claim .

Customer Review: Clean washer
Summary: 5 Stars

Love these affresh tabs to clean front loading washer. This pack also comes with a cloth to clean out the rubber ring near the door. I could not believe how dirty it was! Using these tabs are an absolute must for front loading washers to avoid that mildew/musty smell. Use this or your clothes will stink!

Customer Review: Cleaner works, grit cloth is a joke
Summary: 4 Stars

The washer cleaner does a good job. We were getting streaks in our clothing and it was starting to smell moldy, but we've used a few of these tabs and it did a nice job eliminating the streaks. We've also started to keep the door to our front loading washer open to help eliminate the mold smell.

As for the grit clothes, save your money and just use a terry cloth rag. The cloth was completely useless and not large enough to clean the flange of our washer. Not worth the hassle.

Customer Review: Definitely got rid of the smell
Summary: 4 Stars

Our LG front loader has given us trouble for a long time. Due to the moldy smell inside the machine and on our clothes, the black gunk inside the gasket and ridiculously loud sound it makes when spinning, I discourage people away from buying one of these machines. That being said, I have one, so I have to find a way to work around the machine's poor design.

I have to say that the machine smelled very clean after I ran a tablet through. It did take three cycles to fully dissolve the tablet, but I was pleased with the results. I have also used vinegar to get the moldy smell out of the machine and our clothes...it sometimes takes several washes, but it does work. I did feel that the tablet made the washing machine cleaner than vinegar has in the past.

Like other posters, the manufacturer has been of no help, suggesting that it's pilot error (it's a washing machine, people, how much pilot error could be involved, I'm not sure). We also went back to the store where we purchased the washer and were met with salespeople who seemed to be confused by our claims, suggesting that we dry the washer after each use. We tried that, but the moldy odor and black gunk persisted.

I will use the tablets as needed, and continue to leave the door open when it's not in use.

Customer Review: Does a great job

Our LG front loader doesn't require a bleach cycle to freshen it so I figured I was safe from the smelly front loader syndrome. I made the mistake of leaving a load in with the door shut for over 24 hours and found out what that bad smell people complain about with front loaders. I washed the clothing again, used a pre-rinse with Shout and the clothing and washer were still very stinky. Someone told me about Affresh - I tried just one tablet and it worked perfectly. The stink was gone and a re-wash of that load yielded clean-smelling clothing. I use the tablets occasionally - if I leave laundry in the washer for more than 24 hours.
