Tools and Hardware Reviews of Whitmor 6187-2419 Dryer Balls Set of 2Customer Review: I use them and like them Summary: 4 Stars
I have used dryer balls for a while, I don't think they shorten the drying time but they do increase the softness off my clothing. I DO use Tide with Downy and notice a difference if I throw the balls in. Fluffier. My mom was helping out at my house and did few loads of laundry and noticed it too. She went home and bought some the very next day.
Customer Review: It depends who you buy it from! Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased the original Dryer Max balls from Bed Bath and Beyond and yes I do see a noticeable difference in the time for clothes to dry. I thought I would benefit from additional "Dryer Max" branded balls by purchasing it from Amazon. But the seller - GammaDiscount, who offered the cheapest price, shipped a cheap non branded generic that has a smell. Perhaps this explains why some people who reviewed this product stated that it has a smell while others stated that it did not! Those that detected the smell probably received dryer balls that were not Dryer Max branded! Therefore be careful from which seller you buy from Amazon. For this particular item, therefore, I would not buy from GammaDiscount as they are shipping a cheap generic.
Customer Review: It works... Summary: 4 Stars
I just finished doing 4 loads of laundry, and these silly little things actually work! While I am usually waiting over an hour for my clothes to dry, today my dryer was done in about 30 minutes, leaving me to wait for my washing machine. If I can cut the drying time in half, I am saving energy, time and money. I love this product.
Customer Review: Just buy some tennis balls Summary: 1 Stars
If you ever gleamed anything from frugal relatives, it's that you can put two tennis balls into the dryer to dry the clothes faster. I've even heard Martha Stewart say to do it. These 'dryer balls' are just a way to bank on that old home remedy. Plus, tennis balls are very cheap and will likely last much longer.
Customer Review: Long-Time User Loves Summary: 5 Stars
[Originally written in response to a review claiming you need six to get the effects.] I can actually use just one in a large load with items such as jeans and still get the effect. Obviously it's not as great as using both of the two I own, but I find it adequate, and also do that because I don't like to have to dig out the balls from every load before throwing in another, (I can do two loads without the digging this way.) It softens the clothes and helps them dry faster, just as they're supposed to. I've even, for things I wanted more nub-effect on, thrown them in the wash and then in the dryer as well. This works really well, but the dye from the blue colour of the ball then comes out in the dryer, making the inside of the dryer blue, but doesn't affect the clothing. If you're fine with that, I highly recommend it, especially for things like higher-loft rugs or blankets. I've used and abused my balls for probably a few years now, using them in nearly every load of laundry I do, (which is about one a day for some odd reason!) and when I don't bother digging them out of the dry clothes, (some get stuck in arms or legs and I have to fish them out,) I miss the effects they have.
I am currently, however, considering Nellie's Dryer Balls because of the interesting shape and, as it looks to me on first glance, it's apparent higher quality,(though I have no qualms with these except the dye coming out in the wash). It's claims to be non-toxic and chemical-free, as well as the colour of the balls, makes me think they might be safer to use in the wash as well as in the dryer as they might not have the dye problems I have with these blue ones.
But as for dryer balls in general, I want to have them on hand the rest of my life! Oh, and on a side-note, I feel the same way about adding Borax to my laundry (it cleans and deodorizes MUCH better than just with detergent,) and Method's wet dryer sheets, which use plant oils that get infused into your fabric, leaving a very wonderful feel and smell! Sadly, Target stopped selling the wet dryer sheets, (they stop selling all my husband and I fall in love with shortly after we discover it there,) and I have yet to look for another store to buy them from. That was a horrible day when I discovered that; I still can't get over it! lol
