I have a large capacity gas dryer. A typical dryer load would normally require 70 minutes to dry. Using four of these, this time has been cut to 50 minutes. This is about a 30% drop in time with comparable drop in energy usage.
The softening of clothes is less than you would normally see using fabric softener, however; you'll not have to deal with the residue that fabric softeners normally leave behind. If you are allergy sensitive or suffer other lung ailments, this can be a big plus.
Remember that over time fabric softener will build up and clog your pipes. Eliminating the need for fabric softeners is a big benefit.
These will save money and will pay for themselves in a relatively short period of time. Further, you are not adding unnecessary chemicals to the environment. Plus you will be using less gas/electric, thus reducing the pollution you create.
This product is highly recommended.
Caution, the shipping charge on these plastic balls is very high. You can likely find the same product locally for much less. Try your local dollar store before ordering online.

I bought these because the tennis balls I use for drying down clothing and comforters got thrown out by accident. (It's helpful to use something in the dryer to break up clumps and plump the articles.) Rather than buy new tennis balls I tried these. They work great! I tried the dryer balls hoping to cut my drying time. Yeah right! There was no difference at all, the clothes are not softer, and I still had to use a dryer sheet to eliminate static (despite the package which says you don't have to use dryer sheets anymore). All they do is clunk LOUDLY as your clothes are drying, making it obnoxious and annoying. Plus, they'd always get stuck in my clothes and would just disappear within the pile. I purchased a set of 2 dryer balls and was skeptical at first. After the first use, I was sold. I no longer need dryer sheets which is a money savings; my clothes don't have static electricity and my clothes dry faster. I guess you could say the dryer balls are environmentally friendly because I use fewer resources to do my laundry. They work - plain and simple!Customer Review: Nosiy Balls

I can't believe no one has written about the added noise by using these balls. After two loads I am returning these balls because of the loud noise. I used to be able to run the dryer at night, but its not possible now with the dryer balls. Just imagine hard plastic balls tumbling in the dryer, well for me the additional noise was not worth it. It's very similar to putting shoes in the dryer. If you don't mind the noise then this product might work for you. For me, I prefer peace and quiet more than saving a few cents.
