I've been very pleased with the performance of this item. After taking apart an old deck, I wanted to re-use the lumber. I knew I'd have to use some kind of metal locator, or risk the blades on my saw, planer, etc. I didn't really want to spend a hundred dollars on a metal detector, so I was glad to see this modestly priced version. It does a great job of locating nails and nail fragments in 2X6 lumber. It penetrates well. I had to lift boards up when I scanned past the metal sawhorses I had placed the wood on. There are two minor flaws to the product worth mentioning. First, the head on the detector is only about three inches wide. So you have to make a fair number of passes if you're scanning wide boards. Secondly, the sensitivity control (a dial switch) is on the side of the wand, and it's easy to mistakenly re-adjust it while engaged in normal use. That could be a real problem if you inadvertently turned the sensitivity too low and missed some embedded metal. Still, the product works well, and is much less expensive than similar products. Finally, the delivery was very quick. I ordered the product and requested normal shipping. Two days later it was at my doorstep.

This precision hand-held metal detector can prevent costly damage to blades, planers, cutter heads, and jointers by detecting nails, screws, staples, or other metal objects in wood. It's perfect for scanning recycled wood as well as for locating wood studs inside of walls. The Little Wizard is lightweight, rugged, and easy to operate. Indicators include a speaker and LED red lights. To operate, simply adjust the dial on the Little Wizard until the tone signal stops, position and move in a circular motion. A continuous tone and light will let you know when you're directly above any metal object. Requires one 9 volt battery. High impact plastic case.If you're tired of damaging saw blades or drill bits on hidden nails, screws, and staples in walls, concrete slabs (rebar), or recycled wood, you'll want to add a Little Wizard metal detector to your toolbox.
