Tools and Hardware Reviews of Yard Machines 31C-040-800 Snow Fox 12.5-Inch 8.5 Amp Electric Snow ThrowerCustomer Review: Gets the job done! Summary: 5 Stars
This little blower is a 'back' saver!! My driveway is uphill and I was able to blow it free of snow and ice!!
Great product. Higly recommended!
Customer Review: Good Value for a bad back! Summary: 5 Stars
I got a great bargain! I caught a sale and paid well below what this is going for now. I am on a limited budget, a single parent with a bad back.
Even if I could afford a heavier machine, moving it would likely prove too difficult for me.
Shoveling is just too much for me. While it is clear that during heavier snows I will have to go out every 6", that's ok with me. I usually do that with the shovel anyway because shoveling 30" at one time is so hard for me.
It took me couple of times using it to get the knack of dealing with the cord, but I have my system now, and it goes quick. Also, I learned to cover my face because unless it's really still, I'm pretty covered with snow by the time I'm done. I prefer to use it blowing straight out because it seems to have more power that way. This also requires some finess so that you aren't always blowing the snow where you've just cleared. It feels to me like it's faster than shoveling, but I honestly don't time it. I can tell you though, that I'm NOT exhausted when I'm done, and my back doesn't hurt. This is so light!! I would compare it to vacuming the house.
I was also able to clear some higher drifts (over 2') by picking it up using it to scoop out snow.
Don't mistake this for a heavy duty snow blower, you'll be disappointed. But keeping in mind that it is low cost, light weight, and rated to clear 6", I would say this is a great labor saving device.
Customer Review: Good for light snow Summary: 3 Stars
Ordered this right before our big snowstorm in Maryland/DC, before I knew how big it was going to be. It was a real help, but clearly overwhelmed by our 30+ inches of snow, even though I never let more than 6"-10" accumulate. I'd say it should work well as advertised with up to 6" of snow per storm, and it can handle more by taking two or three passes. The biggest issue is that it can only throw left or right over a 15" or so border and only for a few feet, so once you have cut a path and the snow has built up on the sides, it won't throw the snow over the side. It really does throw 20' or so straight ahead (at a much higher angle), so I found myself cutting in a herringbone pattern. I think this will work fine for our normal light snows and I'm happy with how little space it takes to store it, but I wish I had spent $100 more and gotten the SnowJoe 622 that can throw over a higher bank. If you get regular snows of 12+ inches, you'll need a bigger machine. If you want to help out your neighbors, get a gas powered one so you're not constrained by a cord. As others mentioned, cord management is a bit of a hassel in general.
Customer Review: Good for small areas Summary: 4 Stars
My driveway is only 20 feet, so this thrower is perfect: no matter where I am on the driveway it throws way on the street side so I do not have to double-handle the snow. It really can not through far to the side and clogs very quickly with heavy wet snow that's more than 6". I did however used it for 12" light snow clean out and it did great. Also, it is very light, so you can use it in hard to reach areas where traditional, heavy gas-propelled throwers can't get. If you have a small driveway or want to keep it for the backyard, it is the right tool!!!
Customer Review: Good price and works well! Summary: 5 Stars
I just used it for the first time on about 3 inches of snow and it works very well. I'm a single female and I appreciate that it's light weight and easy to maneuver. However the cord does get in the way, but it's a lot better then manually shoveling the snow. I have a 2 car driveway and it threw the snow far enough to the side that it landed on the grass. I do wish that it had a wider clearing path but it did the job and for the price it's well worth it.
I would definitely recommend the Snow Fox to those who want a light weight, easy to use snow thrower to clear smaller areas.
