Tools and Hardware Reviews of Yard Machines 31C-040-800 Snow Fox 12.5-Inch 8.5 Amp Electric Snow ThrowerCustomer Review: Good so far. Summary: 4 Stars
Hi, another member of the "bad-back"club here, I picked up the SnowFox today and have used it only once, so I can't comment on long term reliability. However, blowing 3-6" of wet/dry snow (from two differenht snowfalls) worked better than I was expecting.
The Fox is light, easy to handle and seems powerful enough for the cutting width. When discharging to the sides, the snow won't blow more than 7-10 feet, but I did my 2-car wide driveway by starting in the middle (going length-wise) and that seemed to work good. The sidewalks were a breeze and kind of fun to do. As expected the chord is a pain to handle but that is an issue with every piece of electric outdoors equipment, not the fox's fault.
To re-cap, the fox works better than expected, is light, easy to handle and powerful enough. The negatives are the limited side discharge distance and the dance with the chord. I am pleased...
Customer Review: Great Little Machine Summary: 5 Stars
This little machine is fantastic - I am a 5'3" 65 year old grandmother and I have absolutely no problem with this machine. It is lightweight, easy to use and works great. Well worth your money.
Customer Review: Great Machine for the Price! Summary: 4 Stars
As a single woman with a corner lot, I just used this machine today and was very pleased. Granted I only used it to clear about 2 inches of snow, but where it would normally take me well over an hour to clear the entire corner sidewalks, plus two car driveway, plus walk to the front door, etc. it took me about 25 minutes. It's kind of like an electric shovel, only you don't have to push really hard, or bother lifting all of the snow out of the way. I've always used a manual shovel, so this machine was really helpful to me.
Customer Review: Great Snow Thrower Summary: 5 Stars
Just used it after the snow storm we had in NY. It worked great. It is light and easy to use. Highly recommended.
(Make sure you have a long enough extension cord.)
Customer Review: Great electric snowthrower Summary: 4 Stars
I just used it for two days of snow, and it's worked great. There are a few things I wish were better, but overall, it's a great snow thrower if you don't want to toss out hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
Pros:
+ Very light. You can carry it with one hand.
+ Fairly quiet compared to gasoline powered blowers
+ The wheels in the back are a big help compared to similar electric models that are more of an electric shovel.
+ Throws the snow pretty far if set for a straight throw.
+ Has handled up to a couple inches of snow just fine so far
+ Snow guides are easy to adjust
+ Cleans down to the cement fairly well
Cons:
- I wish it could cut a wider swath
- If set to through the snow left or right, it doesn't through the snow very far
- Get a long cord if you want to do your sidewalks, so factor that into the cost as well
- If you have cracks in your cement, the thrower might catch on them, so be careful, mine catches on them.
- Sending the snow forward seems to cover where I've been, so I've gone to the side throw heading towards the side edges of the driveway.
Overall, it's worked well.
