This is great for when she is sick. the room gets moist but not to moist it does not wet my furniture and fills the room with the Vicks smell. The complaints about cleaning the product and the black particles to me is not an issue because I refill it and shange the water daily to keep it fresh and bacteria free. My only wish is that it had an on off switch you have to plug & unplug to use. Oh and filter free!!!!!!!!Customer Review: Pretty good for the price

This is a very cheap humidifier, and it works reasonably well for the price. It has a couple of flaws though.
The package said it would run for 12 hours or more on a full tank. A lot depends on how much salt you put in, and a tiny variation makes a pretty big difference in how fast it pumps out steam.
Also, the guard that's there to prevent you from getting burned will keep you from getting blisters but it's still plenty hot if you stick your finger right up against the grill. A toddler could probably put their finger through the grill.
Not bad for the price I guess.

Sometimes the oldest, cheapest items are the best. This is true for this item. I bought it after my larger cool air humidifier broke. I tried a smaller cool air humidifier that was around $40. And I was annoyed by it because it made my daughter's room too cold. Finally I took a gamble on this one.
What I have found is that this one is better than all of the rest. Before I turn it on my daughter's room is 27% humidity. After it is on for one hour the room was 38%. It might not be as effective as one of those huge automated noisy units, but it is a whole lot easier to maintain. I bought one for my room, and for the living room as well after I have seen how well that it works. The trick is to use salt.
Buy it. It is cheap and it works. Not a lot of clean up. Also- it warms the rooms a little bit instead of cooling them.

There is an area next to the night light on top of the unit where you can add medicated/scented oil to be mixed in with the steam.
Pros:
I am very sensitive to noise when sleeping so I have been searching for a very quiet humidifier. I have bought 5 humidifiers, all different brands and prices (all more expensive than this one), but they were all too noisy for me.
It is easy to clean. I get hard water in my area, but the mineral does not stick to the tub, so I can just rinse it out. When I opened up the unit trying to clean the internal components (not recommended by the manufacturer), I noticed the electrodes (used to heat the water) are made from some ceramic-like material, and the mineral does not deposit on them as much (other humidifiers have stainless steel electrodes or plates that seem to collect mineral). I was able to use a spoon to scrape off some mineral on the electrodes and pour out the loose flakes of mineral that are trapped inside the electrodes' containment area. I normally clean out the mineral every 6 months (and I use this humidifier every night).
Cons:
No shut off timer. It shuts off automatically when water gets to a minimum level. If you want it on only for a couple of hours, instead of all night, just pour in less water.

The vaporizer was purchased to add moisture to the air in our bedroom so that my sinuses would not be so dry through the night and in the morning. I could not tell a difference. At first, we could see the steam, but that only lasted a couple of nights, even though we followed the instructions explicitly.
