Tools and Hardware Reviews of Zircon MultiScanner® i500 Center-Finding Stud Finder with Metal and AC Electrical Scanning and DVD How-To guideCustomer Review: Could be better at finding studs Summary: 3 Stars
[...] I like the laser which indicates APPROXIMATE center of stud and the LCD screen which indicates when you are approaching the edge of the stud. However, this unit doesn't seem to be as sensitive as my 10-year-old stud finder. This new one seems to have a hard time finding studs that the old model will call out without any hesitation. Also, it seems that the new model only likes to operate in the left-to-right direction...at least that has been my experience (I have to admit that I haven't read all the fine print on the instruction sheet so maybe this is normal). When I move the unit from left-to-right I can find studs. Move the unit right-to-left over the same spot - or any other spot - and it doesn't make a peep. So I still find myself reaching for the trusty first-generation Zircon stud finder.
Customer Review: Decent product, just need to spend time with it; stud finding is a bit more art than science Summary: 3 Stars
Decent product, just need to spend time with it; stud finding is a bit more art than science. Have used it for about 3-4 years and I just don't count on it 100 percent. And yes, you do have to go over an area 2-3 times. Tester holes with a drill can help, just go easy. Until I hear of something better, it's the best type of this device I have come across.
Customer Review: Do not waste your money Summary: 1 Stars
Like others here said, this sensor just will not give you accurate readings. It changes the location of the stud every time you scan. My old one worked great but finally broke. I thought this was better since it was more advanced. What a mistake I made. I am a remodel pro and do not have time for mistakes. With this tool I have a better chance finding studs with my hammer.
Customer Review: Does not work Summary: 1 Stars
You spend 20 - 30 minutes trying to calibrate and get nowhere.
It just does not work.
P.S. I tried finding screws or nails in sheetrock, but the machine just says "restart in another location"
Junk
Customer Review: Does not work Summary: 1 Stars
The i500 claims to be able to find wiring, plumbing and of course studs. After 2 housrs of trying I gave up trying to find studs through 5/8" drywall. Avoid this product.
