Tools and Hardware Reviews of Zircon StudSensor i65 Center-Finding Stud Finder with DVD How-To Guide

Customer Review: This is useless
Summary: 1 Stars

I have owned this stud finder for years and it is a piece of junk. Sometimes it seems to work but most of the time it does not. I can "locate" studs in a wall moving from left to right - then check my findings from right to left and I get a completely different stud pattern. It would take less time and be more accurate to drill holes in my wall to find studs, fill and repaint the holes than to try and use this useless tool to find studs.

Customer Review: Wire warning does not seem to work
Summary: 3 Stars

After an extremely bad experience with Stanley 77-115 IntelliSensor Plus Stud Sensor, I got this one from home depot. It seems finding the stud well, but the wire warning turns on so frequently that it seems there are too many wires behind the wall. At last I simply ignored the warning and drilled holes to the studs. Luckily I am still alive.

Customer Review: Worked great
Summary: 5 Stars

The thing worked great. I normally knocked on the wall, or used a tape measure to find studs, which usually resulted in me getting mad and drilling holes every inch until I found the stud. This thing worked the very first time I used it. Found 2 studs to anchor the plasma to perfectly. I was going to buy the model under this I65 one, but once standing at Lowe's, looking them over, the extra 10 bucks didn't seem like a big deal.

Customer Review: Works flawlessly.
Summary: 5 Stars

I was researching these things like crazy. Everytime I found a good one, there would be a review saying it sucked. I finally went into the nearby Lowes to see them in person.

Once there, I was just as lost. Then I noticed a display case Zircon had set up. They had a piece of drywall with a wooden stud behind it. Hanging below it dangled this Zircon unit begging to be tested. I ran it over the drywall and it found the stud every time. I did it at least 10 times and it gave perfect results. Even better, it shows you in 'real time' via the LCD display where the edges and center are. The LCD literally shows the stud moving across it while you slide the unit past the stud. When it reaches the center, it gives a loud beep and a red laser lights up showing you the exact center spot.

I bought it and headed home. I ran all over the house. It found studs every time. I should note my home was built in 1996 and contains smooth normal drywall and gypsum walls. I'm very satisfied with this simple studfinder.

Note: Move it slowly for best results.

Customer Review: Works great!
Summary: 5 Stars

A lot of people were complaining about this stud finder, I've used many in my days and this one works great. I even tested it on a double sheetrock wall with metal studs and it worked like a charm. It even detected the electrical lines in the wall. I think the most of the problems people have are from moving too quickly or not following the directions. For instance on the double sheet rock I had to switch to high sensitivity mode by clicking the power button twice. After that it found every stud! Best value for the money.
