Customer Review: Awesome little guy, some issues...

So I have had the Roomba for about 5 months now and there are a couple of things I would like to mention. First off it does an excellent job for the most part, I also bought my parents one and they love it. It is however not without issues.
- If you have hardwood floors with rugs and they are pretty dusty the first couple of cleans will leave dust clumps on the edges of your rugs where it transitions from hardwood floor to rug. This is a simple step of just picking them up as they are usually just clumps of dust that you can just bend down and pick up.
- If your rug has black on it, the Roomba, will mistake large black patches as a cliff and it will stop/freak out/etc. I solved this by covering the cliff sensors with paper and using a virtual walls to block off my stairs.
- I lost a couple brushes on the sidebrush sweeper, I would HIGHLY recommend purchasing sidebrush replacements with the Roomba as they periodically break off...
Other than that this thing is near perfect, I would recommend cleaning your floors with a normal vacuum before using this the first time simply because Roomba relies on constant smaller clean jobs rather than larger infrequent clean jobs with a normal vacuum. I set the schedule to every other day for this and the bin never fills up, sometimes it will get stuck on something I left on the floor by accident when it cleans on its own and I am at work but I just unclog it, and push the button so it will continue on. It may also slightly move some of your furniture around and you will have to scoot it back into place.

Bottom Line: It is worth your hard earned cash because it will free up a significant amount of your time or you will find that you keep a cleaner house because you don't have to worry about vacuuming.
I have now owned my Roomba for a year and my wife and I still love it. I was very worried about the negative reports the Roomba recieved but my wife and I are suckers for these kind of gadgets so I relented and bought one for Christmas. My wife was extatic and I was excited to see if it lived up to the hype. In short, it did. The set up is very simple, just plug in the base, fill the ligthouses with batteries and you're off. The darned thing worked perfectly. What everyone says is true, you will be amazed by the amount of hair and other dirt it is able to pick up even on "clean" floors. Now some of this is because Roomby can make it into areas a traditional vacuum can't but honestly the majority of what it got came from the highly trafficed areas more than anything. This means that you will be cleaning the brushes a lot but hey, it's a very small price to pay for the convenience of the fire and forget this thing makes cleaning your floors. Note: I have a lot of kids (4) and animals (4 cats and 1 dog) so I have never experienced the eureka moment when Roomba comes up without being full to the brim but again it is a price I will gladly pay for the convenience.
We had Roomby for about five months before we experienced the first problem. The brooms stopped working and thus wouldn't pick anything up. It was fairly easily diagnosed and unlike others who have complained on here, I had absolutely no problems with the customer service (perhaps they have fixed the problem with this part of their business.) They were prompt, knowledgeable, and were proactive in helping me get the replacement part I needed (which was the entire broom assembly.) They shipped it in record time and, so long as you know how to operate a screwdriver, (the tool) then you will have no problem doing any work on your Roomba needed. I was able to easily change out the parts and had the unit back up and running within 20 minutes of recieving the part.
The second problem we have encountered seems to be with the "brain." There are times that Roomby will stop running for no reason and if we take him out to work on an area instead of launching him off the base then we have to wait between 10 to 30 minutes for the green light to go off before we can get it to start. Now let me say that even with these problems they are really more inconveniences and the unit is still more than worthwhile. That and truth be told I've not really worked on Roomby to see about fixing the brain problem since it is easily worked around. But, the thing isn't flawless which is why it only gets four stars from me.
Features: programming it is super easy (easy if you can set your tvo or vcr), the battery life is good (can do the 4 rooms advertised), recharge time is super short (like an hour for a full charge), durability is good and what isn't is fixed by the iRobot guys without a problem (so long as you register your Roomba... don't forget to register it!)
Guys, I read every single review on this website both positive and negative and fretted over this purchase for quite some time. I had two friends who were Roomba owners who recommended it but I still wasn't sure because it was a lot of money and some folks had real problems that extended beyond just the unit (customer service.) Having taken the plunge and having experienced quite a bit over the past year of ownership I will tell you that you shouldn't worry about buying one. The only quesiton you should ask yourself is whether you want to spend this much money on any vacuum. If the answer is that you are considering dropping the same amount on one you will have to push and pull save yourself the time and effort and get a Roomba. These things will live up to your expectations and you will love it for the convenience.
Gotta go to bed now, I'm turning on Roomby so that when I wake up tomorrow all the days mess in my kitchen, living room, bedroom, and hallways will be gone and all I'll have to do is empty him and spend three minutes cleaning his brushes. Sweet dreams? Who needs em when you have Roomba!?

Bought this as my birthday gift to help out around the house. This was the best money I ever spent for a gift. I have a Dyson that now sits in a closet. "Roberta" cleans my house every day then goes and plugs herself in. Just ordered a 530 roomba and a 340 Scooba for Christmas. Highly recommended!Customer Review: Awesome!

I ordered the Roomba 560 model yesterday, and received it today. I'm currently considering returning the unit to amazon since their description is incorrect and misleading. The features listed by amazon explicitly state:
"Self-charging Home Base, 2 Virtual Wall Lighthouses, an extra filter, and more included"
This would be true if this was a "56001" model, however the model they are selling here is actually a "56101" model which comes with "2x Auto Virtual Walls" and __NOT__ the lighthouses as advertised.
According to iRobot's website the "56101" model is not compatible with the "Virtual Wall Lighthouses", so one can't even add these as accessories later to use with this model.
Unfortunately iRobot has soooo many different model nuances that its hard to work out from any vendor what you will actually be shipped, I assumed amazon knew what they were doing :-(.
