Tools and Hardware Reviews of iRobot Roomba Silver

Customer Review: As Good As Can Be Expected
Summary: 5 Stars

If you read enough of these reviews, you will understand that this cannot entirely replace a standard vacuum. However, for keeping your floors 95% clean in between vacuuming this will work just fine. I only vacuum my house using a standard vacuum cleaner probably once every 3 weeks, so this is a big help in keeping the dust, dirt, and dog hair under control in the mean time. I have been using it on laminate and tile floors, very little on carpet. In my Office I have a very low pile rug and it has no problems with it. However, my family room has a pretty thick wool rug and the Roomba tends to get stuck on it when trying to move from laminate to the rug, or it will bump up against the rug and think it is a wall and bounce off, sometimes getting somewhat "stuck" in a confined area for maybe 10 minutes. So I don't use it too much in the family room, but it works great everywhere else. You do have to be careful about cords laying on the ground, as it can run over them and then drag whatever the cord is attached to. On the upside, it has helped me keep clutter off the floors a little better than I had previously. It does pick up a lot of dirt, much more than I was expecting. I usually just close off the room I want it to vacuum and let it work unsupervised, then come back in an hour to clean out the dust bin and filter and put it back on the charger. If you have a Harmony universal remote, you can program your remote to control this thing, too, kind of like a remote control toy car. It is useful for making it chase the dogs, but not a whole lot else. One thing not specified in the instructions is that you can pause the Roomba while it is cleaning by pressing the "Clean" button on top of it, and pressing that button again will make it resume vacuuming. Overall I'm very satisfied with the purchase.

Customer Review: Awesome !!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have two shedding dogs, 4 parakeets, a hamster, an 8 year old girl, and a very bussy life. I get up, make my coffe and turn my robot on. I leave it working in the kitchen while i get me and my daughter ready, I have a small kitchen. By the time we come down, is done. Leave it in the living room while I take my Daughter to the bus stop. By the time I come back is done with the living room. Some days i leave it cleaning the bedrooms until the battery dies. Yes, it takes less time if I sweep the floors, but if you schedule it right is well worth it. I absolutly love it. It even has a neckname. hehe !!! What you should know is that It needs to be clean often so the motor stays powerfull.

Customer Review: Best Helper!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love my Roomba so much. I bought another one. This is perfect for hard floors! Set it and go. All you have to do is make sure it's charged and the dust bin/filter emptied.

I let them both run in separate areas of the house. This keeps the house dust bunny free until I deep clean. It's well worth the money. My kids love it, too. I don't have to ask them to vacuum!

Customer Review: Cool...but not for me
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased the Roomba 415 yesterday and although it is a cool idea and I really wanted to love it, I'm going to take it back. Without going into the details, I had two main issues...the battery does not last long and you pretty much have to clean before you use it...so why not just clean and be done with it. I guess if you have a super modern home with very little furniture and very few rugs it would be cool. But I am just disappointed to come home to a room I still have to clean and a dead Roomba.

Customer Review: Disposable vacuum
Summary: 3 Stars

I had one for a year, used it once a week. I loved it, but I can't afford to buy a new roomba every year. Customer service was friendly, but couldn't help my problem. They told me to reset the battery. The issue with the roomba is that dust gets into every piece of the vacuum and eventually causes problems with the circuit board. Both times my Roomba died, it was on the charging station. I wasted $80 for a new battery, but the problem was that this technology has not yet been perfected. I'm so lazy that I might buy another one, but I'd do so knowing that I shouldn't expect it to last more than one year.
