Tools and Hardware Reviews of simplehuman Sensor Pump, for Soap or Sanitizer, Black, 14 Ounces

Customer Review: Didn't work for me
Summary: 1 Stars

Every time I fussed with it I could make it work, but it NEVER worked when I needed it. What's the point of having a soap dispenser that you don't have to pump if you have to touch it all over to make it work? My friend got hers at BB&B with a 20% off coupon and although it looks the same it made completely different. It works, no problem. No little piece hanging down that you need to pull on. No need need to open the top to get it to work. No dial on the back that is hard to turn (it has + and - buttons on the front instead. Sorry Amazon. I love you, but you're selling the bad model of this item.

Customer Review: Dispenser looks great and performs very well
Summary: 4 Stars

Easy to operate. Notices are in two places now to pull down on the dispenser nozzle and release (But why would they put one of the notices within the soap dispenser's tank where the narrow opening presents you with the puzzle of removing it without scoring the clear plastic!) Anyway, purchased fairly thin hand soap from Target and I was on my way. Nice pressure and amount at the low #1 setting.

Customer Review: Does not work in bright light
Summary: 1 Stars

Device does not work in bright light. I have two of these and the one in the Kitchen does not work when sunlight hits it from window and I tried to use another unit in a bathroom, but it wouldn't work because of a 100W bulb above it. Had to move it to another location. The instructions say this if you look real close.

Customer Review: Doesn't work well out of the box
Summary: 2 Stars

I got the 2 pack of this model from Costco, plus a different model from BBB (SKU BT1017 on the SimpleHuman website, not available on Amazon at this time). 2 of the 3 had to be replaced due to failures.

When they work they are great, especially when there are grotty kids around. On the tall one you can set up a blinking light for ~24 seconds which encourages kids to wash long enough (it can't make them, but it can help).

However a 2/3 failure rate is pretty bad.

They go through batteries like crazy. Fortunately I have Eneloops (rechargables that hold their charge) but changing the batteries is frustrating, especially on the tall one. You have to hope not too much soap leaks out when you have it upside down. The other model (shorter, nozzle extends out further) has a failsafe so soap doesn't come out when picking it up and it seals better so changing the batteries is merely annoying. You need a screwdriver to change the batteries, which really is unnecessary, another frustration.

A trick my friend came up with: Cut hand soap with 30-50% water. Instead of straining to have anything come out (no, it isn't the "vacuum seal") it now works acceptably. Before that, they didn't work very well much of the time, even with fresh alkalines.

Really a nice idea, but poorly implemented. I recommend avoiding them until they can improve the quality, especially for the price.

Customer Review: Don't bother
Summary: 1 Stars

The batteries die every two weeks and you need a screw driver to replace them. Ba humbug.
