Tools and Hardware Reviews of simplehuman Sensor Pump, for Soap or Sanitizer, Black, 14 Ounces

Customer Review: Enough soap?
Summary: 4 Stars

Own two of these Simple Human Sensor Soap Dispensers and at first I had the same opinion of a few others...with the control set at maximum it sure didn't put out nearly as much Soft Soap as the old type hand pump it replaced. Then I made another discovery that all should consider a possibility. Do we really need as much soap as the old pumps dispensed? I found that indeed for years I had been using more than was necessary...the amount dispensed by the Simple Human Soap dispenser was quite adequete for normal hand washing and if I had especially oily, grimy hands it was no problem to wash, rinse, and then re-wash.

Yes it took me awhile to adjust to the fact that it just didn't require as much soap product as I was accustomed to using but the net effect is the bottle of Soft Soap now lasts much longer and my hands are just as clean as ever.

Good product that economically and reliably will help you keep those hands clean...with less soap than you are used to using(and perhaps wasting).

I purchased these at Bed, Bath & Beyond with one of 20% Off flyers they send me almost weekly, net cost was $31.95 ea.

I have had on the wall soap dispensers for 6 years and they dispense less soap on one try than this one does on 2nd setting!! Almost didn't try because of the other reviews but needed a counter one and liked the design. I use Jeregens liquid soap and the highest and 2nd highest settings actually dispense too much soap. The only reason I gave it a 4 is the battery compartment. I learned from my others that invariably you have just filled it when the battery dies and because you have the compartment on the bottom you have to empty it to change batteries. Also found the screw a little difficult with my clumsy fingers so that could be designed better. My 6 year old ones of another brand still work and if this lasts as long will be completely pleased.

I first used this dispenser at the Bridlewood Estate Winery in Santa Ynez, Ca. It was love at first use. I got mine as a birthday gift and couldn't be happier. We plan to buy more for around the house. What a great product and yes, simple.

Customer Review: Excellent So Far
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this unit for a couple of weeks now and it works great. I use Method Hand Soap and I am surpised by the large amount of soap I get even with the unit on the lowest setting.

The unit was easy to fill and easy to prime. It works as expected. I love the fact I can see the amount of soap in the unit. I wish that the batteries weren't on the bottom. Other than that, the design is really functional.

I used this to replace the hands free soap dispenser by Brookstone and Artcraft. That dispenser is beautiful, but after replacing it three times, I gave up. I couldn't get it to work after refilling.

I don't foresee refilling to be an issue with this unit, but I'll update my review if it does.

After reading the helpful reviews that point out how to deal with problems that some have had using this soap pump, I decided to purchase one with the intention of burning a small hole in the lid as suggested by other reviewers.

When the package arrived, the box that the pump came in was labeled as "the new" version of the pump, so it appears that the one I received is an updated and improved version. For one thing, the spout on mine does not have the slot that others have described, but rather a small plastic "pin" (for lack of a better word) that needs to be pulled down with either fingertips (or fingernails, really) or a pair of tweezers. The pin pulls a small section of the spout downward to apparently allow some air into the spout chamber for first time use. The pin and small spout section then return to their original position.

I had no trouble getting the pump to prime whatsoever. In fact, it began pumping soap before I had finished the priming procedure, so I actually spilled some soap on the floor because I was not expecting it to come out yet. I set the dial to the lowest setting for the smallest amount of soap, and there was more than enough soap dispensed on the lowest setting, in fact more than I generally use.

I did go ahead and use a hot needle to put a small hole in the lid just in case, but I don't know if it was necessary with this updated version or not. We've had the pump for about a month now, and have had no problems with it, and our guests have all asked where we bought it and where they could get one.
