Tools and Hardware Reviews of simplehuman Sensor Pump, for Soap or Sanitizer, Black, 14 Ounces

Customer Review: Excellent!
Summary: 5 Stars

This unit replaces a MUCH more expensive but far less user friendly one from Sharper Image. I had NO problems getting it filled and primed and working. My only complaint, and it is a tiny one, is that the battery compartment must be opened with a screwdriver and one has to turn the entire unit upside down to accomplish that, which may cause some issues if I have to replace the batteries on a full unit. I am so happy with this overall that I will be ordering more for other rooms!

Customer Review: Expensive and poor design
Summary: 1 Stars

Received this as a wedding gift (the stainless steel version). It ended up breaking after a few months of use. My primary issue with this product is how difficult it is to replace the batteries. You have to actually use a screwdriver to remove the cover every time you want to replace the batteries, and this thing eats batteries pretty quickly. Because it's such a hassle to replace the batteries, we ignored the low battery indicator for a while and after we finally got around to replacing them, the pump no longer worked. This product retails for $40, and I expect better design/quality from simplehuman. It's simply not worth the money.

Customer Review: Fantastic soap dispenser, particularly for kids
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought the simplehuman soap dispenser mostly for my 4 year old son. He always wants to dispense soap by himself and always makes a mess on the countertop.
The simplehuman soap dispense works wonderfully, and the amount of soap seems to be OK. My son wants to have soap on both hands, so I set the setting on the lowest amount.
The IR sensor does take a bit to get used too, but he had it figured out very quickly. I would have given a 5-star is the sensor is more responsive.

Customer Review: Finally something useful
Summary: 5 Stars

I have TWO of these now and both are working great. I selected SimpleHuman because of the brand name and after a little research. This is one of the few automations of the recent past that has proven effective and useful. We need to wash our hands more
frequently than ever these days, and this pump helps to do that.

Customer Review: Getting the right volume of soap to dispense
Summary: 5 Stars

We've had our soap dispenser for a few months now and recently found it to be dispensing a tiny amount of soap (regardless of setting) which took a while to come out. We opened it up to check the motor, primed it, etc, but it still didn't work well. Then I thought that maybe the soap was just too viscous (maybe from the cold or just the type of soap - clear Softsoap). Once I added a little water (which I stirred with chopsticks inside the unit itself)and the thicker soap got pumped out, then we had very nice flow and a more than adequate amount of soap. I had to reset the amount to setting "1". Anyway, it was an easy solution. If you're concerned about introducing germs, then you could always boil the water to be added beforehand.
