Bought this can based on user reviews, price. found the following:
1] Lid lock is only partially functional. It came from the factory stuck. I had to take the lock assembly apart to get it to work. worked for a few days, but ill fitting plastic parts caused it to jam again. makes no difference, my cat doesn't give a damn about the garbage.
2] foot pedal plastic attachment to lid lifting mechanism is poorly designed, manufactured, and assembled. If I use more pressure than the slightest touch, the foot pedal dislocates from the joint and the lid will not lift. Instead, it sends the entire can shooting forward into my shin/knee, sometimes falling over and spilling garbage. I am working on an improvised solution. regarding the design, there is no retention in the pivot point, causing the issue described.
3] it holds trash, as advertised. wooo wooo.

We've had this for over a year now and have totally loved it. There are several things that make it wonderful: nothing inside to catch/rip the trash bag when pulling it out, the lid really makes the can because it has the ability to open with just a step (great when your hands are full or real dirty), it locks to keep our little ones out of it, it is connected (no separate messy lid to place somewhere when emptying), it stays open by itself and closes softly/quietly.
We've never had smells seaping out like someone else wrote about it, but we usually empty our trash every few days, so it has never been an issue. We are very, very glad we bought it.

We bought this trashcan to keep our dog from digging in the garbage while we're out - it does the trick! The locking lid works perfectly and keeps our mischievous 75 lb dog from dragging trash out into the kitchen. Fast shipping and great product. Was a bit of a pain trying to secure the lid on, was afraid I would break it, but you just have to push really hard. Other than that it works great, the lid closes slowly so it doesn't make a loud noise every time you throw something away. Looks very sleek and modern. Will probably buy another one in the near future.
