I've always had a round stainless steel trash can but after the foot lever broke (over 2 years ago) and tired of opening the trash with my hand, we decided to go out and buy yet another round stainless steel trash can. Within a day, we noticed how weak the foot pedal was AGAIN. Plus my husband was tired of hauling the trash bag that would eventually tear out of the trash can. We packed up the new trash can and returned it to Target. I searched on Amazon and we decided to abandon the stainless steel round trash can. We ultimately decided to give the SimpleHuman Step Trash Can a try. We absolutely love it. I wouldn't give it anything less than a perfect rating. The bag comes out so easy without ripping. The foot lever is actually very strong. And the best feature for me is that it doesn't slam close. It closes slowly on it's own.
