uTimer® Ultimate Auto Timer and Safety LightProduct DetailsManufacturer: DATEXXTools and Hardware Reviews of uTimer® Ultimate Auto Timer and Safety LightCustomer Review: Well Built Unit with Odd Functionality
This lamp control "timer" works by sensing light conditions, & turns the lamp (or other connected device) on when it gets dark in the room. That's a nice idea, & similar in concept to outdoor light sensing security lamps. Since I'm familiar with outdoor light sensing security lamps, I expected this to work in the same way, but it doesn't. It turns connected devices ON with lower light conditions, but does not do the expected reverse operation of turning devices OFF with increasing light conditions. Instead, you have to set it's length of "on" operation with a switch. You can set it to stay on for 4, 8, or 12 hours. Once it automatically turns on, based on light conditions, it stays on for only the specified time you have set. This makes very little sense to me. Why not have it stay on until it's light in the room? Or better yet, give the user the option of having it shut off automatically based on light conditions, OR turn off after a specified amount of time. I certainly don't need it to stay on when it's light in the room in the morning, nor do I want it to turn itself off in the middle of the night! I couldn't find enough info online to know that it was only half "light-sensing" & half "pre-specified" timing, which severely limits its usefulness. The switch that controls the "light on" function is small & on the left side, which is difficult to see unless bending down close to the unit, & a little difficult to operate. It would be easier to operate if that switch were on the front or the top of the unit. I've also found that the light sensor is not very accurate, even though I've placed it next to a window, as per the instructions. Sometimes, it turns the lamp on when it's still quite light out, & sometimes not. It has an LED night-light feature as well, which may be useful to some users (but not to me). It's well-constructed, & perhaps worth the money if it suits your special needs, but it doesn't do the job I need it to do.
